[Fishing] Old Crafty!!

  1. NineTailedFox <Angler>, 1 year ago:

I found a port straight to Orgrimmar!

I'm Alliance and i just caught Old Crafty.
(66 Longjaw Mud Snappers, 28 Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish, 19 Raw Brilliant Smallfish - Ironjaw was just as fast!)

Okay, so I came up with an easy way to do this - if you can wait until you are in Northrend and complete the quest chain that leads to the cinematic in Dragonblight, then you get a quest as Alliance to report back to Stormwind. That gives you the Fate, Up Against Your Will quest. This creates a portal to Orgrimmar. BUT, this Orgrimmar appears to be a separate Orgrimmar from the one with Horde in it- so it isn't your server's Orgrimmar! There are NO horde there and the guards do NOT attack you! So you can fish all you want!

I just got The Fishing Diplomat doing this as well as Old Crafty, so you can get the achievements in this "alternate" Orgrimmar.

I'm assuming this works for the Horde quest to go to Stormwind for the Diplomat achievement - i don't think there is a quest that ports you to Ironforge.

Hope this helps fishers currently questing in Dragonblight!

Should be able to use the tram in stormwind to get the Ironforge though..

I haven't seen Old Crafty today.. been fishing for 4 hours. :(

Can you believe it's been a week of fishing 1-2 hours a day and I still haven't caught him? Is there a a level requirement? Skill requirement? Something?

  4. Azaguth <Salty>, 11 months ago:

There's a patience requirement. Can you believe I spent 3-4 hours per night trying to get ironjaw on my horde character for a week straight before staying up all night for a 14 hour fishing session before getting Old ironjaw?

Sometimes the RNG just hates you. Learn to love it. :P

    Good luck.

I consider myself especially lucky - couple weeks before Achievements were instated, I took my troll mage (Jindar, for those curious) to Org to learn fishing, hearing it was good for the alchemy and cooking he already had.

He caught Old Crafty on his 25th catch ever, and the catch itself gave him his 20th skillpoint.

Tonight after reading about the fishing quest "bug" to get Old Crafty I noticed people were not looting the fish on the way to catch the Croc. I don't have fishing dailes yet on my priest but I decided to try and throw back everything but Old Crafty. 5 casts and I had him.

I hope this works for you... Enjoy

Today on my server, was the crocolisk daily, so I decided to head to Orgrimmar to take another shot at Old Crafty. 2 ganks and about an hour later, I got him. :)

Confirmed catch of Old Crafty in Orgimar after relaese of patch 3.1.

Hi. Yesterday (16/4 - 09) I catched Old Crafty in Orgimar with the daily quest "Crocolisks in the City".
It took me about 35min - 50min (Due to girlfriend issues I dont have exact time) to ctach it. 8 babycrocs
    where thrown back.

I had Croc in the City, with a Croc in my bag and snagged Old Crafty within 100 casts.

I started fishing him up around midnight Eastern and got it within an hour. Got ganked twice and one ganker got an achievement - "Defender of the City."

Got really lucky on Old Crafty. Fished in the Valley of Spirits, hiding behind the big rock there. Didn't have Fishing Buddy at the time so I just had my stopwatch on. Caught him in under 16 minutes, roughly 50 catches. I think it took me longer to get into place to start fishing than it took actually catching him. Was level 30 at the time.

Well, I got it. Only about 150 casts, too, and I died once.

    This method no longer works.

Well, to add my two cents...the Valley of Honor is a much better place to fish than The Valley of Spirits. I fished the Valley of Spirits pool for awhile, but was eventually ganked. It wasn't a bad spot, really...I've caught about 300 fish there in previous attempts but I wanted to give the other place a try. I went to the Valley of Honor waterfall during "off-hours" without any problem. I'm a lvl 80 ret pally, and I entered through the western gate. Just saddle up and go for it. I stayed there for a few hours over a couple of days, logging in and out when I had the time to play. I always used Elixer of Camouflage, and so the Hunters couldn't track me. I also used Blackened Worg Steak which allows you to track humanoids; I liked watching the traffic go by me on the minimap. No one touched me there, although I do think a lvl 80 orc saw me. (Thank you from a fellow fisherman.) He was fishing too and may have heard my bobber. I couldn't hear his (and I tried to) but being under the waterfall may have been the reason why. Just for the sake of posterity, and since it seems that there are people who are into this sort of thing, here's what I caught this time around:

    Longjaw Mud Snapper: 530
    Bristle Whisker Catfish: 211
    Brilliant Smallfish: 146
    17 pound Catfish: 4
    Lesser healing potion: 3
    Bloated Mud Snapper: 2
Infantry Tunic of the Monkey: 1
Short Bastard Sword of the Monkey: 1
    The One Ring: 1
    Old Crafty: 1

For a total of 900 casts.

It may not be as easy for others to get to the waterfall as it was for me, but it's worth it if you're planning on staying there for a while. I swore I wasn't going to leave until I caught the bugger, so I'd have kept on fighting and/or corpse hopping my way in if I'd had to.
