I'm fishing in the sewers. Capped skill, +25 rod, +5 hat, +3 line, +100 lure. I guess that makes my skill 583. I'm STILL getting a missed catch every once in awhile and my paranoia has convinced by that these missed catches are my giant rat. Anyone have any idea of what the skill requirement is to catch the thing?

If by "miss" you mean the timer ran out before the bobber splashed: That has nothing to do with skill. It is normally lag-related.
If you got the message "your fish got away" at 583 effective skill, that's unexpected. Dalaran did require 430 effective fishing skill to cast, 525 to stop fish getting away.

They were definitely 'your fish got away'. I went through 15 lures or so, so nearly 3 hours, and I got two of them. It's worrying me a little. It's been many thousands of casts without that rat. :D
