[Fishing] Salty achievement suggestion

    First off, no, i do not have the salty achievement. Secondly, yes, i have completed 'The One that Got Away'... although before it counted (i caught the rockhide strongfish).

    Now, on to my suggestions:

    First off, Mr. Pinchy's magical crawdad box HAS to be changed. Either make it so each Mr. Pinchy guarantee's a crawdad box, remove the achievement from the list, or have it shared with I Smell a Giant Rat (so that catching either pet unlocks the achievement). I'm on my 4th Pinchy ATM (fingers crossed!) and i am yet to get the box, it's frustrating enough that he's a 1 in 500 catch, but then you only get a 1 in 5 chance of getting him

    Secondly, remove the 'one that got away' achievement from the salty title. Before you all rage at me, let me explain that this is one of the most frustrating achievements in game, as it is completely, 100% reliant on sheer luck. While the crawdad box and even the sewer rat have skill involved (either pure fishing skill, or the fact that you have to keep moving around to different pools) this one is just a one in million catch, that someone who has all the other achievements wont get after hours and hours of fishing, but some pleb who just got his first fishing pole will get it on his first cast.

    HOWEVER - this achievement is so big, and has such a small chance of completion, i think it warrants it's own achievement 'reward'. Here are a few suggestions:
    'Nat's Extra Thick Fishin' Line'
    -Fer Really Big Fishes - Enchants your pole with a further +10 fishing skill

    'Impossibly large Pile of Fish Fillets'
    -It can't possibly be infinite, can it? - Think Everlasting Under spore pod, it summons a stack of food - 12hr cooldown

    Other ideas include some kind of fishing chair, and some kind of boat 'mount' that you can drive around water and fish from

    Yes, while the fishing contest does require a lot of luck, you can improve your chances of winning by using a good strategy, and having a sharp eye, whereas the one that got away is pure, unaffected luck

    Are you posting on your character Tacoman? If so you really have no room to complain. less than 1000 cats and you've caught 4 Pinchys? You really want to have the rat shared with Pinchy for Salty? It took me over 4000 casts for the rat...

    I really think that people need to stop moaning about the fishing meta achievement(s) and just get out and FISH! - They are hard for a reason... There are so many easy achievements that grant items or titles (, if you want a easy time go do one of those, if you want 'Salty' you have to work for it.
    Yes fishing involves allot of luck, but this luck can be circumvented by time. - The longer you fish the more fish you catch, the higher your chance to catch the 'rare' fish you want/need.
    I really do like the idea of a 'fishing boat' mount - Though I also believe it should be the reward for the next fishing meta achievement.
    This achievement should be so hard that only a few people per server could even think of achieving it and getting the mount.
    For the mount I am think a small rowing boat (like outside Utgarde Keep) but with a small balloon tied to it (think hot-air balloon) so that it can float (not fly) so that it can go over land, I also think this mount(vehicle?) should be fishable from and limited to 100%(130% with spells and talent's on, LotP etc.) so that its more of a comfortable mount rather then and means to travel.
    Any thoughts?

    I had much more than 1000 casts before achievements came in. The first 2 pinchy's that i caught were 'pre-nerf', when his catch rate was closer to 1 in 1000

    I don't have Salty yet, but if anything isn't good about this title, is that it doesn't have all fishing accomplishments. I mean, 1 Ring, 2 Ring, Sewer Rat, Iron Jaw, Crafty... I think those SHOULD be included to be honest.

    Drop this, drop that, drop that. It makes it way too easy and I think the complaining really isn't justified. This achievement, together with the entire profession of fishing, is partly based on luck. People keep forgetting that out of frustration. In real life fishing, there is a lot of this "frustration" as well, and I think it fits WOW-fishing. So, stop complainin' and catch them fishes ;)

    As this is my first post I'd better start off by saying thanks to El or all the other people that have contributed to this excellent site. It has been extremely useful to me in winning the fishing extravaganza twice and now in getting the achievements.

    In my opinion Salty should not be changed, Ironjaw and Crafty should be put back in. I'm of the understanding that they were a requirement in the PTR. Also the Giant Sewer Rat, fishing line and all fishing clothes should be part of the requirements.

    This is a hard achievement to get and should be left that way, otherwise what is the title really worth when you get it. When I'm Salty I will wear my title with pride, if they nerf it then it will be devalued.

    Individually, on a cast, there's definitely luck involved. But fishing is a numbers game; when you fish repeatedly until you catch whatever you want to catch, it becomes a game of persistence instead of luck.

    Fish and fish and eventually you WILL get all the rare fish you want. It becomes a matter of whether you're patient enough for it.

    As someone who hasn't been able to get the STV contest for the last 4 months, but worked off all the other Achievements... I wouldn't change anything about it. When I finally win the damn contest, it's gonna be the best title EVAR.

    On the plus side of it being harder to obtain, I ran into another Salty on my realm last night (2nd one I've seen - saw and congratulated the first one before I got my title).

    We struck up a conversation, shared some beer, and did a little fishing together - all because of the title, and the fact that it's rare. I felt I knew some of the hassles this fellow had to have gone through to get the title. I certainly don't get that feeling from my other titles.

    In real life fishing you don't have random strangers smacking you round the head with a stick whilst you're trying fish to though ;)

    What do you think would happen if you walk away from a lake with 1230 snapper?

    Pinchy is a pain in the butt , but I think it should be there , however blizz can gladly increase the number of pools you can fish from.
    When I grinded for pinchy I was lucky if I was alone fishing the pools and since they are on a timer you end up with no pools at all after a short while.

    One that got away should stay but I rather see they add in Giant rat and remove the insane Master angle title , I was down this weekend checking out the competition on my server and it was worse than ever , roaming teams of fishers with bodyguards duking it out on the beaches while the comp was on.

    Fishing a Pinchy only to be denied the pet after 6 days of wishes can be pretty harsh. Happened to me; I had to fish a 2nd one. When it came time to click on my 2nd wish (5th wish total), I was sweating... If I hadn't gotten Pinchy then, I would be down to 20% chance of getting him.

    That being said, he's much less difficult to fish now that most of the people have moved to Northrend... I fished him when those Furious Crawdads were still a hot commodity, and the competition was fierce. At least now the only thing you have to worry about most of the time is respawn rates.

    Excuse my ignorance,but what are PWCers and the DNR?

    PWC is Personal Watercraft, ie jet ski's and the like
    DNR is Department of Natural Resources, the people that control fish licenses, daily limits and the kind of fish that are legal to catch.
