[Fishing] Saving bags?

    So I read the patch notes about the Waterlogged Recipe, and I've been wondering... If I save all the bags I get from now til the patch, and open them afterwards, will I be able to get Waterlogged Recipes out of them? Or is the loot predetermined when I pick up the bag? This also applies to the increased drop rate of Cooking Awards from Spice Bags.

    AFAIK, loot is generated when you open the bag.

    I remember fishing up two boxes both of which contained Weather-Beaten Journal. When I used one of the journals, I couldn't see the second one, so I just sent the box to a friend and he was able to read it.

    Also some people report finding new items, added in patches after the box was looted.

    I'm pretty positive that containers determine their loot when picked up, not opened. Otherwise you could just open it, not loot it if it doesn't have your item, then try again. (and if they simply tracked the loot after the first open so that it doesn't change, why not just track it from the time the container is created/dropped?) This question came up on the MMO-Champion forums in relation to icy prisms which will start to drop epic gems after 3.2. This seemed to be the answer given there as well.

    Short answer: no. Loot in containers/bags is determined when the bag is created/dropped.

    When you open the bag, the loot is determined, so you can't close it and open it again and hope that there will be some different loot. I'm positive that old containers drop new loot if they remain unopened until the item is added to loot table. Gonna save some bags till 3.2 to check it.

    It's actually a bit more complicated, but long answer short, it seems like you will be able to loot 3.2 items from containers/bags created before the patch.
