I hope this hasn't been covered elsewhere but I'm seeing very strong indications that this new fish's catch rate is time related, as at least some of the others are. (Are all of them time related?) Maybe that's no surprise; if not, here's a start to tracking the "time zones". My sampling is limited, but consists of over 1000 casts at different times of day. After midnight but I believe before 3:00 AM, nothing. I cast 350 times, and no fish. My next opportunity was between 12:00 noon and 6:00 PM the next day, and I started hitting them fairly well. An evening break, and back to it off and on between 9:00 PM and midnight; My catch rate was noticably lower. I just did some fishing there after midnight again, and again nothing. So, there it is for what it's worth. I wish I'd paid more attention to the times, but I wasn't expecting this issue; I just desperately wanted to catch a new fish. I need only one to complete The Limnologist...the Bloated Redgill is killing me, and I seriously needed some fishing success. <sigh> Sometimes I wish I knew its drop rate; other times I'm glad I don't. Anyway, I recall that someone guessed a catch rate of about 1/100, and that's what I'm seeing as well if I factor out the post Midnight non-catches. For the curious, I've caught 6. I kept the first one for my "trophy room" bag in the bank; it has the first of every bloated fish, Ironjaw, Crafty, The Ones That Didn't Get Away, etc. For the five that I've opened, my drops are pretty much identical with those reported by Gizel at El's Professions. Typically some Brilliant Smallfish, a Reinforced Fishing Line, and a few lures such as Bright Baubles, etc. No Wedding Ring as of yet.
[Fishing] Stendel's Bane
I had a slightly different experience.
I was chuffed from my earlier completion of the One That Didn't Get Away, so I headed over to Stendel's Pond to see if i could fish up the Bane. I started fishing at about 0015 (12:15am) server time, and was a little worried because I had just read your post.
Between starting and 0200, I caught Stendel's Bane 7 times. Each one had reinforced fishing line, as well as a selection of fish and lures. The seventh one had the wedding band as well.
After 0200, until abut 0300, I caught nothing except the usual suspects of smallfish, mud snapper and catfish.
I also caught 1 x 19 pound catfish and 6 x 17 pound catfish.
In all, it was a fun go at the Bane. No idea what I'll use the band for, but it's BOE, so maybe an alt can use it.
I guess the RNG strikes again! And for anyone keeping track, my ring dropped from fish #14.
My 80 lock got the Bone Fishing Pole in a daily today, so I headed over to Stendel's Pond to get some fishing line for him.
I started fishing at about 4:30pm server time. For almost 2 and a half hours I caught about 400 of the usual smallfish, snapper and catfish. I got a 19 pound catfish, 3 lesser mana potions, a bloated longjaw snapper and fished out a school of sagefish that was in the pond. All this for ONE Bane.
At least I got some line for my shiny new pole.
Fish on.

Found The Bane after no more than two dozen casts. From 7 to 7:30 PST. Fished it up before hitting any of the other "valuable" like 17 pound Catfish or Healing Potion. Sat near the graves to greet low lvl dead Alliance players as they resurrected. Because nobody expects a goblin fishing barefoot in blue coveralls when they die.
I had tried for this ring three separate times. The first I managed to fish up 3 Stendel's Bane around 4AM server time with around 300 casts. The second time I caught 1 Stendel's Bane around 5PM server time with about 150 casts. Finally the third time was around 7PM server time and in 20 or so casts I received the Stendel's Bane that contained the ring.
Stendel’s Bane caught! ^__^
387 casts
244 Longjaw Mud Snappers 63%
65 Brilliant Smallfish 16.8%
64 Bristle Whisker Catfish 16.5%
8 Sagefish 2.1% (pools)
3 19 Pound Catfish 0.8%
1 Watertight Trunk 0.3% (pools)
1 Lesser Mana Potion 0.3%
1 Stendel’s Bane 0.3%Stendel’s Loot
2x Brilliant Smallfish
3x Nightcrawlers
1x Reinforced Fishing Line
2x Bright BaublesFor those wondering, I believe Stendel and his wife are buried in the graves by the pond. He lost his wedding band to the mighty catfish and was never able to retrieve it, hence, Stendel’s Bane.
I found out about this in a podcast called Warcraft Less Traveled http://warcraftlesstraveled.com/ The Mystery of Stendel’s Bane is Podcast #48. Those interested should check it out.
Now to go back at it....

Needed the ring, below are the stats from West Fall (Stendel's Pond). It should be noted I noticed no difference in catch rates according to time, the only thing I noticed was long "droughts" of not catching a Stendel's Bane then catching 2-4 rather quickly. I plan on getting another ring for my personal collection, I'll keep an eye out for any irregularities....
Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper - 1216 (58%)
Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish - 464 (22%)
Raw Brilliant Smallfish - 370 (17%)
Stendel's Bane - 24 (1%)
19 Pound Catfish - 5 (0%)
Lesser Healing Potion - 3 (0%)
17 Pound Catfish - 2 (0%)
Lesser Mana Potion - 2 (0%)
22 Pound Catfish - 1 (0%)
Shadowgem (lvl 20 green gem) - 1 (0%)TOTAL: 2088
Stendel's Bane Loot (ring came on the 24th catch):
Brilliant Small Fish – 69
Nightcrawlers – 48
Bright Baubles – 45
Reinforced Fishing Line – 19
Aquadynamic Fish Lens – 9
Stendel's Wedding Band - 1

Got a little lucky with the 2nd ring took another 467 casts. It should be noted I caught my first couple Stendel's Bane rather quickly then didn't get another for what seemed like forever....couple casts later (5th Stendel's Bane since I caught my first ring) bam, got one with the ring inside. Figured just the fishing/loot gods trying to get me to quit. Like I said, they seem to be caught in groups of 2-4 then go on long droughts.....time is not a factor from what I could tell.
It should also be noted after 2555 casts I never caught the 1 ring, or a 32 Pound Catfish there, though Stendel's Wedding ring seems to be a less rare item

8 banes, no ring.. pfttt.. its a LIE ;)
There must have been a recent nerf to fishing lately. I've been to Stendel's pond twice in the last 24 hours, and fished for an hour each time. I caught 8 Stendel's Banes at an average rate of 4 per hour. No rare rings yet, but if I figure that if I'm casting, what, 3.5 times a minute, then that's one Stendel's Bane for (roughly) every 50 casts, which makes the actual fish not terribly rare in and of itself. I'm fishing at 525 with the jeweled pole (now with the +1 line - woo hoo!) and the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat, so I don't know if that's skewing the results. I'll try this with my level 10 lowbie (200+ skill) and see if he does as well - if I can get him there in one piece.
Now that I think about it, both Old Crafty and Old Ironjaw only took me less than 300 casts each just last month. I can't be THAT lucky. Therefore, there's been a recent nerf.
Maybe. :)
I'm feeling so darn lucky I'm going to have to try for Mr. Pinchy tomorrow.
