These "two" items probably are different (Alliance catches the first, which starts a simple quest, Horde catch the second, which is vendor trash), but does anyone know if Horde can sell the "broken" part in the Goblin AH and Alliance gets a "strange" part? That is, Horde can put up the non-soulbound vendor trash item, but when an Alliance character buys it, they get the soulbound quest item?

Interesting. I wasn't aware the Broken Engine Part was only caught by Horde, and the Strange Engine Part only by Alliance. But it makes sense. Certainly we know Horde cannot complete Smallfry's quest, since she is hostile to Horde. If so, I imagine that each item is coded such that it only appears in the catch for the appropriate race.
