[Contests] Stranglethorn Fishing Contest Cheating!!

Today was the day of the STV fishing contest and I was really excited and pumped up about it. I really wanted to win. So I did as many things as I could to get prepared including buying a lot of health potions, and switching my glyphs to help me escape the evil horde that killed me a few times.

The contest just began, and about 5 minutes later, the winner was announced!! I was shocked. How could somebody win this fast. Luckily the winner was Alliance, so I deiced to whisper him. At first, he wouldn't tell me what he did to win, but after a while I gained his trust. He told me that earlier that day he contacted a GM and told him that he accidentally deleted 40 Speckled Tastyfish. The GM then gave him 40 and he handed them in right at the beginning.

I was very disappointed with this and hopefully he didn't tell anymore people and give them ideas about cheating in this way! :(

-Well at least I got my lucky fishing hat :)

That'd need to be a pretty stupid GM to believe that, considering that tastyfish disappear within 4 hours. I'm not sure I believe that guy. He probably made it up so that you'd stop asking.

I agree but how else would he win in less than 5 mins? Oh and also he was a lvl 19 twink on a PvP server so there is no possible way to get 40 fish that fast!!

Another way to cheat (I think it's been mentioned here) is to fish up 40 tastyfish, then immediately start a paid transfer to a server where the server time is hours earlier. If your transfer happens in time, you'll be on your new realm before the contest starts, with 40 fish.

If you have a complaint or issue with a Blizzard GM, you must take the problem to Blizzard, not here. I have no way judge what are fairly serious allegations, and there's no way for GMs to defend themselves here. For the US, you can find contacts here.

As Gummo says, transfers have been used in the past for quick wins, although some other "exploit" might have appeared.

    Thanks

I am not complaining about the GM...I am complaining about the person who would cheat to win! It is just unfair :(

this sounds odd to me, did you at least try, or is is just hypthetical?...you might be able to do that eventually in US, but not in EU, every single server have the same server time, en, es, russian, all..

Who cares, you can kill two birds with one stone, the GM, will either get fired or will be close to, and the player will be banned, warned, for same reason...there is no way you can win in 5 minutes...But nothing proove the GM really was in play, he could have used any other cheat...when you see you can still use teleport hack, and such, the servers are so vulnerable, even after 5 years...

I had a discussion with a former player that tried this once. He thought for sure the GMs couldn't remove the title and could only take away the fishing pole. Two days after the win they rolled back his character to the state in which it transferred. I laughed my butt off! Yeah he quit shortly after that incident.
