[Contests] STV Extravaganza Support Group

If you are looking for place to fish the only thing I can recommend is you do the scouting 30 mins or so beforehand.

If there are 2 people in the area odds on more will arrive soon or they will jump your nodes. The other thing to watch out for is guild names, a large number of the same guild throughout the zone suggests they will running interference.

Won it for the second week at 17 minute mark again.

The only other thing to add with fishing on your own node is try to keep within the same area of a group of nodes instead of running in one direction.

Anyway I got my rod and trinket now so I'm bowing it at this point. :)

'Tis a sad day... It was my 5th time today. I caught my 40 at 17 minute mark, hearthed and just when I ported to the BB inn the winner was announced. :-(((

tis a sad day for me as well. I caught my first 20 fish in 5 minutes. Great start.. after that people showed up and started fishing in my pools, had to move around a lot etc. Well I caught my 40th 15 mintues later and right as I was hearthing the winner was announced.. Ive won this contest once on a pvp server but I transferred to a PVE server to try my hand and lemme tell you the competition is fierce. Was hoping to be one of the few to win it on a pve and pvp high pop servers.

I had all the achievements for "Salty" except this one for a good 6 months. I fished the tournament nearly every Sunday and seemed to miss it by a few fish each week. Sometimes I'd get frustrated and not attend for a week or more. I decided to try the small troll island just for kicks one weekend.

Several minutes before it began I noticed a few people come by the island and I hoped they would just pass through.

Well the whistle blew and to my surprise their was no one else around, there were always 2-3 nodes spawned within yards of each other. I couldn't believe it.

After just 14 minutes I had 40, hearthed with my heart pounding, and chose the trinket.

I am 31 years old and acted like a school child when I saw my name across the screen, and had finally earned two of my most gratifying achievements in the game.

My wife just giggled and gave me a hug, she knew how important it was to me.

Don't give it up, the day will come......and when it does......well you'll just have to find out.

I've been trying every week for 3 months and finally got it :)
Last tries were quite disastrous. I used to end with 28-40 fish when the winner was announced, and that's it.

This time, however, I finally got this streak of luck which I was missing before. It's been my second tiem fishing at the East Coast (usually sticked to mid-West coast). For the first 8-9 minutes I got most of my pools all to myself, so when other competitors started swarming my area after the 10min mark, I was much ahead already.

I finished in 17 minutes, so the time isn't all that great (usually it's 16m on my server). I squeeled like a little girl after getting the achievement and my hands trembled for good 30 minutes afterward.

So yeah, I would agree - do not give up, try week afetr week and you will get it at some point for sure. :-))

All the tips are good, I'm sorry though you are doing yourself a HUGE injustice thinking this is a solo endeavor.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME:
    1) Make a raid.
    2) Hearthstone at Booty Bay. kicking a dead horse

Raid Group 1: You and a friend
    3) You fish ONLY! No distractions, no other actions, if you're not moving to next closest pool to fish, you are FISHING.
    4) Get your best friend to help out, scouting pools, giving you water walking: whatever support he can provide - NO PVP

    Raid Groups 2 -3
    5) The best PvP team you can find. Sick on the opposite faction, up and down both shores. Make sure they know DO NOT CORPSE CAMP ANYONE. You need to kill all opposite faction anglers at least once.

    Raid Groups 4-5
    6) This is your same faction squad. They need Kodos, Mammoths and fishing poles. If they are close to you, have them cover pools with mounts, or fish the far away pools as fast as possible.

    7) Groups 2-5 need to understand they are buying time for you. All they need to do is delay the fisher a pool or 2, or 1 corpse run, and their job is complete. Once they throw a fisher off time, move on to the next one.

This strat works flawlessly. We have used it to own the Tourney and it is 8-0-1 so far. The 1 draw being the sunday we didn't have a fisher in the tournament, but held off the Tournament being won til the raid started that night at 6pm.

You can say what you want about courtesy, blah blah blah. You have to play win, you can either control your destiny or let it be controlled for you.

So, after winning this contest way back when it started on my warlock, on the second week, I have since changed to a DK, and let me tell ya, bad luck is really getting me down.

I got everything else for my new Salty title pretty easy and quickly (Pinchy droipped in 24 casts, vs 18 months of fishing last time)

But every week I end up at 38-39 when the winner gets anounced. so depressing. Half the time it's because I get a yellowtail 2-3 times in a row and done.

Oh well, here's hoping for next week. Cause I must do this achievement vs the enw one, because I must have the fishing rod!

  9. trespasser <Angler>, 2 weeks ago:

Really, this achievement is only dictated by luck if you let it. Some social engineering will get you this title. I won this achievement 2 weeks in a row, for the rod and the trinket...and this was back in the day when raids of 40+ ally would camp it. So I am tired of hearing people on this board cry about RNG and luck. You make your own luck in this game. It was no luck that my 1st 2 weeks doing this that I got it both times.

    1) Pick a side/path and keep to it. Practice your route before the contest, as all the pools are in the same place, just replaced by Tastyfish.

    2) Get about 10-15 friends to come with you. Offer to pay them each 100g or so for their 40 min of time. Trust me, this is how I won my 1st two weeks doing this achievement.

    3) Send 2 groups of 3-4 roaming every coast, killing every ally they find. This is your gank group. It will immediately weed out some of your competition.

    4) Keep 2 with you as bodyguards. Never stop to help them kill someone, always fish. Have a pally be 1 of your bodyguards, for mount increase speed aura.

    5) Send 1 group of 2 people as your "spotters". They run up and down and spot pools for you. It is best if they are male tauren. If any ally come by, kill them. If any horde come by, get your 2 tauren friends in the water, jumping up and down, making it near impossible to click on the catch for the competitor.

    6) Carry Elixir of Water Walking with you so you can easily cross any water obstructions and easily maneuver to get any pool. Or have a DK be one of your bodyguards.

    7) Lastly, don't bother with setting your stone to BB. Have a summon team consisting of a Warlock and 2 friends be ready right @ the turn in. Not only do summons have no cast time, but it will put you closer to the turn in. This contest is ALL about using every last second. When you are at around 35 tastyfish, have them summon you, so that the absolute second you get all 40, you can click accept on your summon and turn it in.

Thats about it. You follow those 7 rules exactly and I promise you, you will win whenever you want to win. You may think that some of my tactics are semi-dick moves. But hey, I have been known to go to STV and win the contest weeks in a row for no better reason than to stop people from getting their achievement. :-D

  10. Kiingy <Angler>, 2 weeks ago:

I helped a friend with this the other day, I have both Horde and Alliance. He asked 2 friends from alliance to come and I came on horde with a friend as well.
So in all, 5 people (including the person trying to win)

    He won.

You don't need massive raid groups for it.
When I won this all I had 1 was person with me and yes I was on a high populated server.
