Only thing I want to complete my set is the mechbuilder's overalls

I've been playing around with attire for a few days, and have still not finalized the ensemble. My main is a shammy, and so can wear mail, which broadens the available selection. She has the following fishing gear already:

    Head: weather beaten fishing hat
Pole: Kalu'ak (with +1 from the Reinforced Fishing Line I got from Stendel's Bane; I don't have any other line on this toon yet)

Hands were my primary focus for a while. The fingerless gloves drop from Thuros Lightfingers in Elwynn. According to Wowhead he respawns every 2 hours or so. It also says he spawns at one of four different locations. The period may be correct, but I have always found him at the bandit camp to the northeast of Jerod's Landing. Although he allegedly drops fingerless gloves, I haven't seen them. Wowhead says they are a 3% drop. After too many kills, I bought Heavy Linen Gloves for a pittance in the AH. They look the same and are readily available. Add the Angler enchant, and voila! fishing gloves.

Other gloves I looked at were Gauntlets of the Sea and Seafoam Gauntlets. These are both leather, and are truly gauntlets, riding half way up the arm. A mail option is Seaspeaker Gloves. These ride even further up the arm. Cumbersome gloves like these seem counterintuitive for fishing, even though they look cool. One additional consideration is that they obscure a large part of the sleeves on whatever shirt you choose. If you are a Hordie, Fisherman's Gloves are a quest reward for killing an enormous fish in Stonetalon Mountains. Its an amusing quest and worth the trip. Ally have a different reward, which I discuss later.

On my back, I have the Gnomeregan Drape. It has no connection to fishing, and does have the annoying gnome emblem. But is it waterproof and stainproof, and as a pragmatic angler I overlooked the annoying gnome connection. Unless you got it during the clearing of Gnomeregan, it's not now available. I haven't looked for other options. One serious down side of any cape, is that with Phrin's draenei tail, the cape rides out over the tail and makes her butt look big.

I'm not currently equipping a chest piece, although I have looked at several. I like the blue overalls. They do obscure any legs you wear, as well as most of any shirt. I tried to farm the Mechbuilder's Overalls, which drop in Gnomer. Wowhead shows these as less than a 1% drop from many of the trash mobs. I gave it up as bad business after one partial clear, even though I liked killing the gnomes. I also looked at the Kalu'ak rep rewards. All of them seem to have some connection to harvesting the sea (Whale Skin Vest for a politically incorrect example), but I don't like the appearance of any of them enough to wear them for looks alone.

As a shirt I currently wear the Red Lumberjack Shirt. I like the appearance and workman-like association. I'm going to try the blue and green versions, and also look at the workman's shirts. They all have suspenders, which are awsome, and which you can't see if you wear the overalls. I tried the Exodar Doublet, but I was looking for full sleeves, and this is primarily a chest-only covering. I have Captain Sanders Shirt and Sash, which I wear on all my toons, even my low level Hordy. But for fishing I was looking for a more visual statement on the shirt.

On my waist, I am currently wearing the leather Fisherman's Belt, which is the Ally quest reward for killing the big fish in Stonetalon Mountains. Other options I have and may use are Captain Sander's Sash and Bloodsail Sash, both of which look exactly alike to my undiscerning eye.

For legs I am wearing Bloodsail Pants, and will probably continue to do so. I also looked at Haliscan Pantaloons and Tuxedo Pants. Both look nice, and it's only my personal preferences which governed my choice. Sea Legs are a low level mail quest reward in the Cape of Stranglethorn.

I am wearing Bloodsail Boots on my feet, at least until I get some fishing boots.

I don't have shoulders equipped, but did find the Seafarer Mantle, a cloth quest reward in Borean Tundra. It looks fine, but doesn't go with the Lumberjack Shirt. There are also Seafarer Boots as another quest reward in BT, as another option until you get your fishing feet.

If you want to carry a main hand item that's not a pole, you can get the Traditional Flensing Knife as a Kalu'ak rep reward, or the Fisherman Knife, a trash reward from fishing quests.

I don't have any neck, wrist, trinks or rings equipped, although other posters have made good suggetsions about many of those slots. If I ever get Antique Silver Cufflinks from the daily quests I'll probably equip them because they are so rare.

    Fish on.

Well finally got the mechbuilder's overalls. Then a few days later while doing one of the Orgrimmar daily's, A Furious Catch, I fished up a hunting rifle within the Southfury River. So with that I think my fishing outfit is now complete!

So excited I get to post this, this week. It's been a long time in the making. I don't even know how or why, but I found the mechbuilder's on the AH this week, I won the Kalu'ak a couple of weeks ago, and my Darkmoon tokens added up to the right number today. Since my gloves no longer match with the Boots of the Bay, I bought myself a set of the replica Darkmantle Gloves to match.

    So the current set is:

    Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat
    Mechbuilder's Overalls
    Blue Lumberjack Shirt
    Replica Darkmantle Gloves
    Azure Silk Belt
    Boots of the Bay

    and don't forget
    Nat Pagle's Broken Reel

I had a couple of suggestions for those looking to spice up some of their wardrobe. I used to wear Seer's Gloves to match my old Nat Pagle's Fishing Boots- same colour as the brown leather and equivalent shape, but cloth. Blue stripe instead of purple. For the perfect colour match to the old boots, Runecloth Gloves have purple and gold details on brown, but big cuffs.

Tansmogrification has made some change in the way I look at fishing outfits. Regarding gear with bonus-to-fishing effect - such as the Weather-beaten Fishing hat, or the boots - the item is more important than the look, in some ways, as a badge of "look! fishergnome!"

Now, however, when aiming for the "look" only, I find it -more- impressive to see someone who has managed to find a good looking set that can simply transmogrify their adventuring gear. Whilst most of the "traditional" fishing outfits have been made up of primarily cloth with some leather, hunters now would be looking for fishing-relevant looks in mail, and warriors in plate!

To that end, I've discovered that the Talhide "set" of mail looks like a brown cloth set, with waistcoat and trousers, and so looks rather good. I aspire to the Lightning-charged spaulders to go with it.

Finding good fishergnome transmogrification gear in plate is even harder, I think, without the "hunter" looks for the mail sets to add at least some relevant looks. Direforge and the other Vashj'ir sets hold some promise, helmet aside, thanks to the "salt-stained copper" look they aim for.

    Update on Phrin's fishing fashions.

My Salty 90 shaman has the following equipped as a fishing set:

    Head: Nat’s Hat
    Shoulders: Puncture Binding Spaulders
    Shirt: Red Lumberjack Shirt
    Wrist: Antique Silver Cufflinks
Pole: Mastercraft Kalu’ak Fishing Pole (with High Test Eternium Fishing Line, +5 fishing)
Hands: Heavy Linen Gloves (with Angler enchant, +5 fishing)
    Waist: Azure Silk Belt
    Legs: Bloodsail Pants
    Feet: Boots of the Bay
    Ring 1: Dread Pirate Ring
    Ring 2: Stendel’s Wedding Band
Trink 1: Hook of the Master Angler
Trink 2: Spyglass of the Hidden Fleet

Buffs: Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm, Sharpened Tuskarr Spear (+15 fishing), Captain Rumsey's Lager (+10 fishing)

Might have any of the following pets out: sea pony, giant sewer rat, tiny white carp, any of the 4 crocolisks, magical crawdad, strand crawler

Possibly riding one of these mounts: sea turtle, water strider, fishing raft

    My thoughts on my choices:

Head: If you have Nat's friendship, there is no alternative to his hat. Otherwise, the usual suspects are great.
Shoulders: I read a post by Weller who suggested the green whelp shoulderguard. I liked the look, and found that there were four different color versions from transmog armor sets: Flowing Water Armor, navy/bronze; Gilt Armor, olive/light brown; Gloria's Work Armor, brown; Jangdor's Armor, maroon/olive. Nice to have a choice.
Shirt: Lumberjack and workman’s shirts look great. Captain Sander’s shirt is too flesh toned to really show up, although it seems appropriate. Bloodsail shirt might be a good choice if you have already done the rep grind for it.
Wrist: What else is there for fishing but cufflinks?
Pole: To be honest, if I ever manage to take first again in the STV contest, Phrin will probably equip the arcanite pole. In its absence, an epic pole seems fine. For everyday fishing, Phrin doesn’t use a pole at all.
Hands: Plenty of options here. The +5 Angler enchant does not appear to stack with the eternium fishing line.
Waist: I also like Captain Sanders’ Sash, or the Bloodsail sash.
Legs: I tried Haliscan pants and tuxedo pants. Both look good. Again, Weller made a good suggestion regarding smelter’s pants. These are easily farmable from Deadmines, and look good.
Feet: the Extreme Anglin’ Boots are a great alternative. Unlike the Boots of the Bay, the Extreme Anglin’ Boots will take an enchant. I added the minor speed enchant, and Phrin wears them during the STV contest for the run from the inn to Riggle Bassbait. The extra 8% speed might make a difference....
Rings: The 1 ring and 2 ring are good alternatives. Stendels band is rarer than the 2 ring and may be on par with the 1 ring, according to Wowhead.
Trinks: The one time Phrin won the STV contest, I picked the hook. There is nothing else I know of in the game that turns you into a fish. The spyglass is a drop from Serpent Shrine Caverns. Phrin didn’t get Nat’s broken reel before it left the game. I’m sure there are other trinks that work well.
Unequipped slots: No neck, chest, back or tabard. Didn’t like the look of blue overalls on this toon. Alligator teeth necklace might work for the neck. Didn’t find a cloak or tabard that looked right with the rest, although if I was to equip a tabard it would be the Anglers’.
Happy to be mostly done with the ensemble.

    Fish on.
