So just a few moments ago, I turned in the last daily quest to become Salty.
It's been an ambition for so long, and finally came to fruition. I gave up on it a few months ago with the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. Every time I went, the place was swarming with No Mercy Mafia, an Alliance PVP guild who killed me six times the last time I participated in it. I decided that if I wanted Salty, I'd have to go Ally just to survive and gave up for a few months, fishing in the fountain for coins on the side, but not really striving for the title.
Then came the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby, where I saw my opportunity to get the hardest portion of Salty out of the way. There was no way that one guild could camp all of the pools in Northrend right? So I logged on two hours before the tournament, studied El's summary and video, and prepared myself. Ten minutes after the contest started, I turned in my Shark and became a Master Angler of Azeroth the first week the Derby was released. After this, I continued to work on the coins off and on, finally getting my Titanium Seal about two weeks ago.
With this, the most RNG laden task out of the way, (so I thought) I set out to tackle the others. Getting all the pools was no problem, and fishing up the bosses was easy enough to sneak to and do. No, as bad as the coins were, I had run into the real c-blocker of this acheivement.
Pinchy.
I fished. And fished. And fished. And when I was done with that, I fished some more. After twenty four solid hours of fishing over a four-day period, I finally caught Pinchy. Unfortunately, I didn't get the pet on the first wish, so afraid I was going to lose the wishes without the pet, I spent the two day cool-down fishing the pools some more. Fortunately, I got the Crawdad on the second wish, and I was done with fishing for Pinchy. The only thing that stood between me and Salty was Crocolisks in the City, and after a few days of checking the questgiver, I finally completed that and got Chuck for my troubles on the turn-in.
I am one of the 104 this year. Now to celebrate?
I need my turtle. Back to fishing.
