[Fishing] The Fishing Title is IN!

  1. By Petre <Angler> 2 months ago

A new title has been added through the in-game achievement system.

    The title is:

    Salty

and is available to anyone who has completed all the fishing achievements (including the fishing tourney)!

It's certainly encouraging... although I'm not sure many people are going to manage all the fishing achievements.

When I was able to get into the game earlier**, I noticed the whole achievements interface had been taken out of the client, so I couldn't confirm the data-mined information. I was also rather hoping that Ele had managed the Coldarra server first Grand Master fishing, having reached 450 last Saturday afternoon - but no new title appeared.

( ** Very early morning is now about the only time the EU beta server accepts logins. I hope the situation is better on the US servers.)

Added: The server code for awarding titles is currently extremely broken - I was awarded the first level 80 and first level 80 warlock titles (no idea if I was the first level 80 warlock, but I certainly wasn't the first level 80), but when I logged off and back on, the titles were removed, and someone else got them.

Making the title difficult to get makes it all the more impressive for the few who get it. I'm not sure if Noor, my pacifist rogue will be able to get "The Lurker Above" title or not; definitely not if that achievement or "The Deadliest Catch" require killing the monster summoned (as opposed to just summoning it via fishing). Noor hasn't won the STV contest yet (only 1 attempt), but she got a few XP for returning Nat's Measuring Tape, and now she's got some mudskunk lures in the bank.

  4. Does anyone else think the actual name of the title is a bit....well...you know?

I foresee a lot of people joking about this title being combined with weird character names.

For example "Salty Beefcake" or something along those lines.

I understand where the term salty comes in, in terms of fishing and the sea, but I think something more appropriate should have been "Salty Old Fisher <your char name>" to avoid the inappropriate name combinations that would result from just using "Salty".

Master Angler would have been much better but this is probably better than nothing.

Honestly I like the way 'Salty Petre' sounds. I think it's unique and inventive. On the other hand I really don't like that "Grand Master Angler" is going to the first person to 450 fishing on the server. I don't feel that the title reflects the level of work required to attain it. Leveling fishing from 375-450 is not exactly difficult, whereas winning the fishing tourney is. There is a lot of uproar in the forums about the "reaching max-level first" achievement titles. Most people think they are a good idea, but that the choice of title is bad. Aren't all Death Knights "of the Ebon Blade"? Why should only one person in the entirety of WoW have that title? It's a rough discussion, with a lot of anger back and forth. I'd say that it's still Beta, and nothing is final. Hopefully some of these things get changed.

"Salty Salley" Finally a title im going to turn on :)

And to Petre, the server first level/skill ups will be removed, only bosskills will count now.

Yes, titles for "first to 450" in professions is going away, because being first to, say, 450 fishing depends so much on your time zone vs. other players.

Ah, I didn't notice this! I thought Salty was being awarded to the first player at 450 skill, which was later removed. Apparently, I was wrong.

Yeah, I could think of a few things that are supposedly salty...

It's probably one of the more fun titles to display though. "Salty Edge." Hopefully people will *point* and *laugh* at random occasions.

The title is gone for the realm first to 450, but the Feat of Strength achievement remains (and is something I fully intend to go for :-P).

I'm definitely looking forward to "Salty", especially since I'm known for being a bit...surly :-D
