[Fishing] To Vend or Not to Vend

One thing I have struggled with (especially at the high level of fishing) is a good knowledge of the value of the fish in my bags. Since my cooking level doesn't exist (I fish 'em; I don't clean 'em..lol), I'm always tempted to vend them just to get them out of my hair. Many times I've caught fish that I've never heard of (esp. before Wrath) with fancy icons, and I've looked them up (or placed them for auction) only to find that they're trash. And over the last week, even my haul of Furious Crawdads and Golden Darter wouldn't sell to cooks on my server. I'd rather fish than be researching them for price or placing them in the auction house and then find them expired in my mailbox. El et al, do you know of a more simple way to access this information in one place for quick reference? The addon "Auctioneer" doesn't seem to be reliable regarding fish...hmm. Or can we begin to compile our own list of fish that are valuable and worth the time at AH (from personal experience)?

Auctioneer works fine for me, I only scan and post auctions on wednesdays. That ensures you don't get weekend undercut lows in your data.

In the mean time, any excess fish (or whatever) that I get and don't have space for, I mail to an alt. Then when Wednesday comes, I log onto said alt and return all of them to sender.

I post around 300 auctions per week, and usually only about 125-150 of them sell...then I repost a second, third, even fourth time. If I see the same thing over and over, I'll vend it eventually.

Well your main problem trying to sell crawdads and darters is theres not a huge market for fish that can be caught in BC realms. Fish in WoTLK (dragonfin, sculpins, cuttlefish seem to move on my server) to get more splash for your fishing buck

quick list of fish to sell on AH (may be incomplete)

    in no particular order.
Darkclaw Lobster (useful for getting past the 275-300 cooking hump)
    Succulent Clam Meat
Deep Sea Monsterbelly (prob depend on server)
    Dragonfin Angelfish
    Fangtooth Herring
    Glacial Salmon
    Imperial Manta Ray
    Moonglow Cuttlefish
    Musselback Sculpin
    Nettlefish
    Rockfin Grouper
    Pygmy Suckerfish

generally if i catch a fish not on this list i vendor it (unless its a special fish).

i just made this list based on personal experiences on my server; your server may differ, try it and see how it goes.

On Cenarius Mosterbellies will run you upwards of 6G pretty consistently. They're a little annoying to farm, but the Cuttlefish sell well too so you can make a pretty penny by fishing the pools in Borean.
