[Fishing] turtle higher drop rate in scholazar?

  1. zakayron <Angler>, 6 months ago:

Ive read quite a few comments that say they got their turtles in just a few minutes fishing in the pools in scholazar (spelling?) and im wondering just how many peopl this has happened to.

    please give details such as

:where you on a fishing daily? if so which one:

:approx. what time where you doing the fishing:

::what lures and gear you where using including gear:

i know some of this may seem random but if you know blizzard you know that stuff like this happens in WoW all the time.

I personally dont intend to grind for it because i dont have the time im just fishing not in open water right now when im fishing for something.

however if i found out i could do it in 5 minutes with such and such a daily at such and such i place i would do that..

this would just save a lot of hassle. thanks

I haven't seen good evidence that Scholazar is any more likely than any other place. It's just that it's a rather popular fishing place. I in fact avoid it except for the daily because there is more competition for pools there than elsewhere. That said I have done my fair share of pool casts there for the turtle without luck.

I fished every where for DAYS AND DAYS- except the basin. Then, when I had just finished the ghostfish daily, I realized my hearth had a minute or so cooldown, so I went up to a river and fished 2 schools there.. "thinking, well maybe I will start the grind out here tomorrow looks quiet and less boring than the frozen sea" and that last pool just before my CD was ready dropped a turtle!

I too had read that a lot of people got their turtles there, but I figured, well then, that is likely just because it is a major fishing spot.. so I won't bother. Well sure enough, when I finally went there it worked.

Oh, and I had only the kaluak rod and the fishing hat (using the lure from that hat, which is 75 I think).

I had already completed the Fishing dailies and was just doing a few sweeps of the zone to stock up on Dragonfin Fillet. I'd fished extensively in the Frozen Sea for the mount and also any pool I passed in other zones was cleared out such as during my fishing dailies.

    Pool
    Dragonfin Angelfish School

    Zone
    Dragonblight

    Location
South of Westwind Refugee Camp. (Was working my way upstream from the coast)

    Gear
    Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole
    Weather Beaten Fishing Hat

    Lure
    +75

    Skill
    560

Got mine in Grizzly Hills -- the Blue Logging Camp or whatever it's called.

Glacial Salmon sells on the AH much higher than any other fish, so I was farming for turtle there to make some decent cash. Shift Clicked me a turtle late at night after midnight.

My typical gear was worn: Weather Beaten Hat, Pagle Boots, +2 FIshing gloves, Arcanite pole with +5 line and +75 lure from hat.

But yeah, Grizzly Hills. Wasn't any competition either on my server in that zone.

I also caught my sea turtle in sholazar after just a few minutes of fishing. but i can't comment on trying other zones first because this was really one of the first times i had even tried fishing in northrend pools.
    my set up-
im level 80, was trying to do the ghostfish daily
my fishing skill was 338, with +25 rod, and +75 bauble.
it was around 2 or 2:30am server time.

i was expecting it would take a lot more skill to fish up the turtle but apparently not, i actually just trained fishing 2 days ago and was simply trying to skill up and get some good fish to help level cooking. i had just spent around 4 hours fishing for the magical mr. pinchy, so having gone through that grueling feat i thought turtle would be way harder. i guess sometimes the hardest things are easiest when you arent even trying :D

    BlueBell
    Feathermoon

maxed fishing with hat and mastercraft pole

Fishing for Nettlefish in Sholazar Basin - approximately 4000 fish since turtle was released

River's Heart Basin - the northern most pool - the one you have to stand by the tree trunk to fish.

The daily was NOT Ghostfish but not sure if that matters other than the fact there were pools available

Just got mine. What a week I have had in fishing, in no small part thanks to reading this forum. Thanks all. :)

Max fishing, Kaluak pole with truesilver line, no other buffs
    Dragonfin Angelfish school
    Dragonblight
    Lake Indu'le
    app. 8 PM server time

I was Turtle fishing for perhaps 4 hours on the coasts and especially around Kaluak over the last two weeks, then gave up to pursue Salty related quests figuring it would just have to fall on its own. I popped by lake Indu'le to grab a few dragonfins on the way to do the daily and right before heading to the sea, wham!... I wasn't even thinking about it when it showed up, I am still a little shocked.

Beyond that - my luck has been outstanding. In just the last few days I got The One That Didn't Get Away in about 150 casts from a pond in the NE starting zone, then followed that up with Mr. Pinchy in about the same number of casts with the second wish giving me Mr. Pinchy's crate, and now the Sea Turtle - the one I wanted most of all. I have never been this lucky in this game, I suppose I will cap it by winning the fishing contest and getting the title. :)

Bummer is only a couple of people in my guild even faintly understand the meaning of any of these achievements flashing by ...

Got mine in Sholazar during the ghostfish daily. Had already got the ghostfish and was finishing up a pool on my way back to flight path when I got it. Was around 4:00pm PST when it happened. my luck is horrible, i spent entire days fishing for this thing, I'd say well over 20 hours of pure fishing. I'm persistant. Had max fishing set on, all rare reward fishing gear and arcanite pole.
