[Fishing] Turtle, in how many catches did you (not) get it?

  1. aparchee <Angler>, 7 months ago:

I got my hands on the turtle after a number of long fishing sessions, counted over 6500 casts to get it on my level 80 main. Also took me upwards of 9 hours to get the Dark Herring for my Salty title and 730 odd casts for Old Ironjaw.

Two weeks ago decided for a laugh to try and get fishing up on my level 34 Priest, started in Ironforge, got IJ in under skill 200, hit 200 grabbed some +100 fish hooks and set off to Howling on the boat, did an hour or so in the afternoon then went to raid, decided to go back to Howling and tried the lake near the UP meeting stone, got The one that didnt get away Dark Herring skill level 255, cast again got Herring + Suckerfish, cast again Sea Turtle, yep within 3 casts at level 34 obtained 2 very rare achievements, no clue how to upload pictures as yet but happy to upload it if I can figure it out, as you can see the difference between the 2 characters is a big one in terms of level and skill and once again shows that nasty word "Random" at its best.

Additional other info I got Sewer Rat cast 12 on main, cast 6 on another 80 Druid I have yet I know people on cast 2500+ no Rat, sometimes it just works sometimes it doesn't. My advice after the original 6500 turtle, don't fish for hours and hours, an hour here and there is far less stressful and enjoyable and one day it will pop, good luck and happy fishing ;-)

Things like the Rat and Turtle are what keeps us hooked(see what I did there....;p)

Got it on my 5th cast, and yes I'm serious, it was in Sholazar Basin.
I thought this was supposed to be difficult to get, did the blizzard people misplace a decimal point?

Lucky....... im at 9500 casts no mount getting sick of fishing for it but I MUST HAVE A TURTLE MOUNT!!!!!!!!

  3. Pj <Angler>, 7 months ago:

    im at about 4,000 casts
    all in fangtooth pools
    no herring either
    =[

Been gone for several months due to finances but back on my first day of actual fishing...
Caught mine in 25 casts...lucky since im still after my stinking salty title...Darn you "one that didnt get away" Achievement!

Edit: after a rough night at work fishing was my relaxer. After cooking 180+ Herrings I emptied my bags and headed to a pool in Howling fjord... 3rd cast into the pool and BAM! my dark herring showed up.

It took me ~5750 catches to get mine.... 2 people in my guild got it on one cast 0_o

Guessing I've been lucky, no idea how many catches exactly but I've been fishing Fangtooth Herring pools occasionally for both the turtle and dark herring, and the turtle popped tday :-) Doubt I've fishing more than 300-400 casts as I don't recall selling all that much fried herring, just a dozen or so stacks over time. Was very surprised to see that achievement pop up! Now wondering where to go for the one that got away...

  7. Shircon <Salty>, 6 months ago:

Ive been fishing the frozen sea and im about 1200 catches in,with about 300 throughout the rest of NorthRend as i see them randomly....still nothing, and im running out of water walking potions....went through 25 last night.

  8. Enygma <Salty>, 6 months ago:

I've stopped counting pools or individual casts ages ago.

Got the Herring around 8800 fish and other things caught. I'm at 20885 now; been fishing in pools only, except for the Crocolisk quest.

    Still no turtle. :(

  9. jeraz <Salty>, 6 months ago:

i got it in the river hearth, in about 900 catches...

I have slowed down a lot. After the first couple months of not getting it I gave up the solid farming.

Last night I reached a milestone. 50,000 fish (50k). Still no turtle. And yes, i fish in pools. No I don't use a bot. I sit in my recliner with a wireless mouse while watching TV. I have officially decided to stop farming this.

  11. Renetta <Salty>, 6 months ago:

I feel with you. I basically spend two full vacations to get the one that didn't get away (7.5k on that one) and about 12k on my attempt to get the turtle (to no avail).

At some point watching TV and clicking when the bobber make a sound, is the only way to cope.

I pretty much stopped when I realized that these ultrarare drops had killed all that time, in case of the turtle for nothing.

I finally got it! I posted a few months ago to vent my frustration about not getting this, and I said I'd stop trying. In the end, I did. It took around 4,500 casts back then, and I haven't fished for months, tonight was the first time. I went fishing in Howling Fjord by Scalawag Point (on the river where you need to get two of those walrus-looking things to mate), simply trying to fish for imperial manta rays for my cooking/buffs. The moment I stopped hoping for that turtle, I got it. It took about 20 casts, but I got it. And it was totally worth it!

i respectfully withdraw myself from this catagory as i caught him in BT during the Blood is Thicker Dailey, and i met another person in game who caught it on the same daily that day....possible seaturtle glitch? i saw 2 pools after i completed quest and BAMMO...

I hang my head and have to say I'm one of the lucky ones. I was fishing a monsterbelly pool and got both Northrend Angler and Turtles All The Way Down simultaneously.

Just an update to swim speed: druids' aquatic form is +50% and (at least in plain vanilla WoW when I tested it against a friend), the STV fishing quest reward was the same speed as that. This makes the turtle 10% faster, not 5% as C Rage notes in the write-up.

Finally got mine last night after only about 60 casts, but I have been fishing like a woman possessed for it since it was implemented, and Pow! it drops when I'm least expecting it :D

Hi I was just fishing last week for food type fish and I caught the Turtle Mount.
I have did not try an catch the turtle just lucky,

  17. Gladkathie <Angler>, 5 months ago:

I was leveling in the open sea, in Valiance Keep. It was between 1000-3000 catches, while I got my turtle. So it can be found in open water, too. You can imagine how happy I was, cause I red it everywhere, I cannot get it, unless I fish from a pool, I was completely shocked, when I saw, that In my catch there were 2 pages... And on the second, there was a blue item... "What the heck-I thought" and I saw it is my brand new, little, dear, precious(yeah, preciousssSSSsSSS) cute turtle!!!!! Maybe it was a bug, or you can really get it on every water, but anyway, something is sure.
I was lucky like hell! :D

Does "in Valiance Keep" mean in the dock area, right in the middle, where the moored ship is? This would be interesting, because, as far as I know, there are no pool-spawning points inside that dock, except Pool of Blood (which can appear anywhere in Borean Tundra, and are reported to sometimes contain a turtle).

I generally look for how anglers can become confused about events, by missing some information. That tends to happen in the excitement of catching something like this. A pool spawning right under the bobber at the moment the angler caught the turtle is one such confusion. Another example of confusion might be the bobber landing in a different named area to the place the angler was standing (which used to explain a lot of "weirdness" in Azshara).

The basic arguments against Blizzard intending Sea Turtles to be caught from open water are here. 80% of all casts in Northrend are in open water, so if this was anything other than a freak event, these forums would be flooded with people that caught the Sea Turtle from open water accidentally.

One explanation is a "sync bug". The game server momentarily got confused about where your bobber was, and so sent you a fish from another location, not the place you were. WoW does this more than it should - for example, ever killed a mob, but been unable to loot it because you "were not close enough", in spite of standing on it? The game server and your game client disagreed about where the corpse is. Unfortunately there's no reason why Northrend should be the only place this happens. Nobody ever reported catching Mr. Pinchy while idling in Stormwind.

Another possibility is a freak chance of breaking the "loot table". For example, the server might try to roll somewhere between 0 and 1, but due to a quirk of the way computers aren't perfectly accurate, calculates the result as 1.0000...00001, producing an unintended loot. But again, there's no reason why such a bug would only influence the Sea Turtle.

Yes. This has happened to me. I always think it's something wrong "at home" and re-log. Thanks for this explanation.

After around 12-13k of fishes caught i finally got it. I nearly lost all my hope after i fished for 7 hours straight without getting it.
