[Fishing] Turtle, in how many catches did you (not) get it?

    I caught the Sea Turtle a couple days ago after around 700 casts. I got super lucky, and I apologize to everyone who is casting thousands of times with no luck.

    I actually got mine without even trying. Got really lucky a few months ago.

    It was a Saturday, I was fishing for the Blacktip shark, going for my boots. I still considered myself a novice angler at the time. I had a horrible strategy for the contest, and I had a very very bad path. XD Well, I was fishing out in the sea, off the coast of Dragonbligh and Borean Tundrat, but it was actually pretty crowded. Well, I didn't know that you can't hear the yells when you're in the Frozen Sea, so when I died once (I enjoy PvP, so I spent quite a bit of time fighting, rather than fishing) I ran back to my body, (Like I said, my original strategy was very very flawed) And I mounted up, then flew to the northern end of the Tundra, southeast of Coldera, and I hit that gap of water.

    Well, thinking the contest wasn't over yet, since I didn't hear the yell. I figured that it would take about 20 minutes like the STVE does on my server. I started fishing down those waters. Without even realizing it, I stumbled across the Sea Turtle. I probably didn't even have 1000 casts when I got it.

    I was fishing from pools.

    **On a side note, I've got my Boots of the bay, and my Arcanite Fishing pole since then. I've nearly perfected my strategies.

    Finally got my mount. Closing in on 3,000 casts. Scholozar Basin. Got tire of other places.

    I actually caught the turtle yesterday, Monday. On Sunday night I decided to go out to outlands and I fished for the curious crates until I got the ability to find fish. Once I was equipped with that I went to northrend the next day. I took a look at the forums and it seemed like the majority of the fishermen were getting their turtles off the coast of borean tundra or in scholozar basin. I went to scholozar and fished for about two hours before I got it. Roughly 200 casts for me.

    i just caught my 4th turtle mount. So i now have 1 for each 80 i have.. all mine were caught leveling up my fishing on the island where that large crab pats for a quest-i think moakki harbor (sp) i personally love the turtle mount its the only mount i cruise dalaran on .. i have the chopper but eh turtle is much funner to ride on..i do feel bad for the people who havent caught it .I do know someone who has well over 25k fish caught and never got it so i hear its frustrating.. but dunno.. time to play the lotto i suppose..

    Well I finally got my Turtle today.

    31702 Fish and other things caught since WotLK.

    I got it after around 10 mins of fishing today, I have done 4+hrs a day fishing for the past 2 weeks for Fish Feast fish and the mount.

    After taking an extended break from WoW this was nice to get after coming back.

    I only have Boots of the Bay and The 5 Ring now.

    But, I got the Sea Turtle mount on my first throw ever in any Northrend water.

    Wasn't trying to get it, I was just going for the Achievement to fish in every different fish-pool in Northrend.

    If you don't believe me just make some random low leveled char on Turalyon and give Machamp a /w

    Hey guys I'm new to the site, but I'm a old school angler. Finally got my sea turtle today from a school of mussleback sculpin in Lake Kum'uya in Borean Tundra!! When i finally got the turtle i had 13,985 fish and other things caught and 8,405 fish caught. Even though i caught it there, I've fished in every school in all of northrend and have TONS of every type of food. I have one toon with every bag and every banks slot with fish feast mats and another with pigmy suckerfish. I wanted to post on here because during my eternal fishing run for this mount, many times my motivation would start to fade and this website kept me going. The write-ups about people finally getting it after thousands of casts helped me get back in the groove. I dont know exactly how many casts it took me for the turtle only, but i caught the magical crawdad after 7 complete Terrokar clears of pools, got the sewer rat after about 10 hours straight, all 4 crocolisks, and won the STV tournament twice. After about 10,000 fish caught, i read the idea to watch tv while fishing...that helped a lot. Was funny cuz when i finally caught him, i barely saw it. I heard the achievement go off, saw i caught a blue object along with the regular 2, and mounted up!! My luck in WoW with rare drops has always been somewhere in the middle, i have to earn em, which aint bad but makes me appreciate the drops more. I just wanted to tell my fellow anglers KEEP AT IT he's waiting!!

    Also, just as a side note, 2 days before i got the turtle i got my TLPD after a year of countless hours of camping!!

    Funnily enough I was watching NFL Gamepass (American Football) while fishing and I wasn't paying much attention to my fishing. - Just listening for the sound that I caught a fish, reeling in and recasting (I have a great macro for my Logitech G13/G19 to fish). - Then all of a sudden '*BRRRRRRRRONG!*' ( I had that games volume up) and I almost wet myself, then look at my main monitor (Gamepass was on another) and see I got the turtle achievement and almost wet myself again! ha-ha.

    Getting the mount came as a shock as I had almost gave up on getting it and wasn't expecting to get it.

    As I said I now have only The 5 Ring and the Boots of the Bay which IMHO are both completely down to luck, personally I really don't like this new event, at least with the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza skill was involved to a point.

    Just my 2¢.

    I've have been fishing for the turtle since Wrath came out (stalled leveling to fish the lottery more). Just over 10,000 cast and for the last two weeks I've spent more game time fishing then raiding, which is saying alot as I'm a avid raider!

    Anywho, last night while waiting for the raid to form I was once again fishing, this time in Borean Tundra (the only real lake there). I was also reading this very forum (got to page 11) so I wasn't even looking at the screen when I caught the turtle! I sure heard the achievement sound effect though and everyone in vent was freaking out with me! lol

    Moral of the story? Don't give up, and try to fish for valuable fish so atleast you never really feel like you waisted time. If only there was some profit to farming the Time-Lost Protodrake :(

    Got it 7th catch from manta schools lol. Wasn't even going for it, was just fishing 2 manta schools while searching for fangtooth herring for "the one that didnt get away"

    Just an update. Now at 31,000 and no turtle. This number seems absurdly high and I'm probably magnitudes past the the true odds of catching it.

    I question whether fishing while levitated might have the effect of denying the turtle. I usually fish while levitated (priest) on the waters surface. Makes it much easier to position myself and avoids areas with dryland mobs. Has anyone caught the turtle while levitated (not water-walking)?

    Likely going to try fishing from shore for the next while, hoping it makes the difference.

    p.s. Have the 5 Ring now, still wanting the Boots of the Bay.

    8,916 FINALLY....after hours, and a week and a half of straight farming.

    KEEP AT IT!!! Just keep telling yourself "one more hour,"...and watching TV really helps pass time.
    I was about to roll over and fall asleep but thought, "I'll just finish out watching this episode of Robot Chicken." BAM!!!

    Chances for the turtle are perhaps in the 1/5000 range. Sadly that also means that the probability distribution has a long tail. There are just bound to be some of use who will literally never get it. Remember, every cast is like the first and you roll a 1 in 5000 dice. Just in a very large pool of people, on average there will be 1 drop in 5000 casts.

    Oh and I doubt that levitation does anything.

    On that note, I just thought I give it another run. After 3 pools I got the turtle. That's for a total of about 17k pool casts solely for the turtle. Luck.

    But I'm just not sure how I'll get it, it can only be caught if you have max points for overfishing? and it is only in those schools of fish you can get it?

    I took some pictures and upload them from two different positions. Are there some that are right?

    If the fishing rod to be in the middle of the shoal of fish there, so it becomes almost impossible when they disappear again. I would also like some would highlight the areas where i have caught yours.
