[Fishing] Turtle, in how many catches did you (not) get it?

    If the fishing rod to be in the middle of the shoal of fish there, so it becomes almost impossible when they disappear again. I would also like some would highlight the areas where i have caught yours.

    Dude... first.. posistion of pole dont matter at all, and if you want to fish something up from a FISHINGPOOL then make sure your bobber is inside the pool not outside as your picture shows!!
    Second.. its ANY pool in northrend which can award this mount, so when your pool is gone, find another to fish in... so on so forth...

    P.S there is no "special" zone for this mount other than WHOLE NORTHREND.. ANY pool from Northrend can have this mount...if yer lucky nuf ^^

    Even though this will infuriate many veteran anglers, I caught the sought-after turtle after only 2 days of casual fishing.

    After 632 fish, I caught the turtle in a Fangtooth Herring pool in Caldemere Lake, Howling Fjord. My fishing skill was at 446 (+25 from Nat's Pole).

    I was prepared for much more fishing, but I just got lucky!

    I really wasn't looking for a turtle mount, I was just fishing because I had time to do so before an ICC raid.

    Anyway, long story short, I got my 1000 fish achievement on the same cast as my turtle mount.

    Was under Dal at the time, looking to get enough fish to make myself translucent for the entire raid. :D

    I got my Sea Turtle while fishing for the Dark Herring, got it after like 4000 casts, then Dark Herring after 16 000 casts.

    I wasn't deliberately fishing for my turtle, I caught it off the coast of Dragonblight competing in the Kaluak Fishing Derby.

    Didn't win, but I'm not complaining about the consolation prize :)

    I just switched servers and joined a new guild as I started to rant about being addicted to fishing because of this sea turtle and how it haunts my dreams. Then like 5 minutes later I caught the elusive creature! About 10,000 fish plus other stuff caught. Was in the basin fishing nettlefish.

    Hiya guys! im probably gonna be the most recent post here till tuesday the 7th of december and we all know what that means ;)

    i tried to fish for the turtle mount about 3 months back ( and in the interest of keeping a long story short) i gave up on it after taking 6 days out of wow just to fish, about 6-8 hours aday for 6 days consecutive.

    2000 casts and nothing!

    so i gave up, i went to do all the fishing dailys,

    nothing still,

    Then in dala one day i saw a troll names Yuvali, riding atop a sea turtle! i made good friends with this man, he later told me that after about 6000 casts hed managed to reel the turtle in ^^

    i told him how id been doing and he said not bad but its gna take more then 2000 casts.

    and so my entusiasm was born again! i had a whole new reason to want this mount not just to sit atop in dala or the new org and look smug, but to see if i could beat 6000 casts as i was already 1 third of the way there!

    the only problem however, was there was only 8 days until the release of cata! and i was very determined to get this mount before then!

    so i set out to try and do about 500-6500 casts anight!

    it was possible for me to do about 140 pool casts every 50 minutes or so so it was do-able!

    but then i sarted to read peoples comments from wowhead and other forums on here! saying that every cast has a 1 in 5000 chance and even if youd of cast 100,000 times and still not got it, (Although unlikely) youd still be no closer to getting it!

    i felt really disheartend! but then i kept fishing, i managed to find some consolation with late night tele here in britain! its not that bad, an arnie film here and there!

    first night 10pm to 1am northing
    same for the second
    third night went till 2am, still nothing

    on the 4th night however. i was watching the apprentice, at about half 1 in the morning and then it happened! i wasnt even wathcing the screen but the noise was unmistakeable! then as i had autoloot on, i just managed to catch a glimpse of it as it enetred one of my bags!

    i had to look at the chat log to double take! and check! it was a wierd feeling! as if id fell asleep and it werent happening!

    but then a flood of guildies saying gratz!!!! followed and i checked my bag,

    it was there! i had done it!!!

    tok me about 5634 casts in total, but thats only in the one lake, i had about 9k total fish caught and 15k fish and other stuff caught,

    i soon told my friend id beat him with 5.6k !

    its amazing!

    im truly happy!

    I dont want to brag, just want to add how and when i got my Turtle.

    I stoped playing wow for about 1 year then started on WOTLK in February 2010, I kid you not.. i get off the boat and grab a few quests, and then somwhere around 45 63 in Borean Tundra i go into a cave that winds down like a quarry, see my first pool at the bottom.. well mabey my second or third pool, but anyway i got the mount.

    I was playing with my wife who had been 80 for a while and asked her if it was rare drop .. she said "YEAH"!!!

    Now i look back and think.. damn was I lucky, now im on Old Crafty... late nights in Org :(

    I'm sorry I don't have specific stats to offer, but I have the turtle on 2 characters, who got it at very different times:

    - My first was what I'd consider a fluke. I was doing the phantom ghostfish daily in River's Heart and fished a turtle out of one of the pools. It was totally unexpected and I'd probably only been 450 a month or two when it happened.

    - My second was almost a year later when I was chasing Salty on a second character, and only needed One That Didn't Get Away to finish it. I probably had about 20 1-hour sessions (250 casts or so?) at the lake in HF tryting to get the Dark Herring, and a week before it happened, I fished up the turtle. So I'd put in a pretty hefty amount of Northrend fishing before I got it.

    I have been working on Salty lately and I have two achievements left. Wining a fishing tourney & Catching One that didn't get away (I got this on an alt after a few casts, never thought it would be so hard on my main). So like many others, while I try to catch the Dark Herring I am trying to catch the Turtle at the same time (hoping I catch it first).

    So far I have about 600 herring caught. So I am very early in this grind. I keep hoping on the next cast I will be one of the lucky ones. No joy so far.

    1000 herring caught. No turtle, but I did win The Kalu'ak Fishing Derby. Now all I have to do is fish up a Dark Herring for my Salty title.
    1700 herring caught.

    i dont understand it why is it that everyone wants to catch dark herring for one that didnt get away you got other fishes that are for the achivement for example you can fish up the rockfish
    in stv extravangza like i did its a lot easy work than herring

    The sea turtle dropped for me once after just 50 catches in the schools on frozen sea off Northrend. I fumbled the loot window and saw it go away. I was heartbroken and figured my luck was blown but it dropped again just 200 casts later. Is the drop rate possibly increased with cata? This seems like a much higher drop rate than I had expected.

    I'm at about 3500 casts post Cataclysm release so about 5000 - 6000 in total , I've fished up the Dark Herring and also about 3 tomes of polymorph.

    Sounds sad but i'm just enjoying doing about 2 hours of fishing a day, Im sure it will come soon.
