[Fishing] Turtle, in how many catches did you (not) get it?

    My plan of attack was to fish an hour each day after 3.1 was released. I averaged about 100 fish per hour and I finally caught my Sea Turtle a week later from a Borean Man O War school near Riplash Strand.

    I haven't been able to track the number of casts I've used... After burning out on fishing for coins and the Sewer Rat, I was putting off farming the Turtle. I've been doing the Daily ever since the patch came out, and fished pools when I saw one nearby on the daily. This morning, I caught my turtle in Borean Tundra.

    I'd say roughly it took me 200 casts, maybe less. I've been insanely lucky... But then, I got insanely unlucky on other stuff.

    I'd guess it took me between 300 and 400 casts, but that's a pretty rough guess. I found it on Caldemere Lake in Howling Fjord, then caught the Dark Herring 15 minutes later about 30 yards away. In the last three days, I've also gotten the Strand Crawler, an epic gem, and the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat in my Bag of Fishing Treasures, so apparently my hunter is one lucky dude.

    No idea on how many casts I am now, not counting by myself and only started Fishing Buddy and Fishing Ace after 3.1 so they were both on the fritz from the beginning, so deactivated them...

    Guess I'm on at least 2-3k now (yesterday alone 5 hours straight fishing, played Peggle in WoW on the side, was fun).

    I'm facing a weird problem now - I don't know where to fish.

    I figured I'd use the opportunity to stock up on fish meals ingredients but if I stuck to it I'd get far more than our guild could ever use up. I put ingredients (sans the spices) for 60 fish meals in the guild bank after a few hours of casually pool fishing.

    There is a sharp drop in prices for all things fishing related on our server, unless your willing to farm other ingredients (like Lich Bloom/Ice Thorn) in similarly high amounts (I got tons of pygmy oil I just don't know what what to do with) you just can't sell any of that stuff for more than a token price.

    For now I'm sticking to Glassfin Minnows, simply because there are very few Pygmy Suckerfish with them and you need 6 fish for 1 Elixir of Water Walking, which is a good way to farm the turtle without cluttering your bank. But as you can't sell the elixir (worth crap here) and I got by now also more of that thing than I'll ever use...

    I'm looking for some way to farm the turtle and making at least a little profit while doing that, but right now I just don't see one.

    I bin fishing 80% of all fishing schools i seen during my dailys at the argent crusades turnement. thats 2-5 schools pr. dai.
    the 25/4 I spend 2½ hours fishing nettlefish schools in sholozar basin.
    Then i moved to the murlocs at borean tundra and fished 8 schools.
    Then i moved on along the coast, moving forward from school to school.
    As i entered Grizzle hills, and went past the PvP harbor, I finally got that turtle on my hook.
    I had fishing body on since 25/4 it's displays i did about 800 catches.
    Heads up everyone.. (Gjargo on Argent Dawn, Horde side.)

    Well, I decided about 2 weeks ago that I needed (!!) this mount. I am not a mount collector at all, but this, I had to have. I had ZERO fishing skill, because I only have a recently lvled to 80 Death Knight. So I had to start from the beginning. All I have done is fish for days and days it has seemed. I got the dark herring (x2), and I finished the coin master quest, all while leveling fishing, and going around to random pools, just hoping to get this mount.

    At the time I caught it (half an hour ago- woot!) I was about to go to bed, but I realized in the excitement of children's week, I had forgotten my northrend fishing daily. It was the ghostfish one, so I decided to run out to the basin quickly. I got my daily done and realized I had a minute and a half left on my hearthstone. So, while I went to pick up an egg from the oracles, I went and fished two schools that were nearby in a river. I did the first thinking "it would be so great to just get it right NOW so I could be done with this- I hate fishing right now", but I didn't get it. So I decided, this one last pool before bed, and tomorrow I will fish here for a change" (as this was the one area I hadn't bothered in.

    And as you have guessed- I GOT IT! I almost died of shock! I checked my achievement statistics and my total "fish caught" was at 2428. At least half that would have been those pygmy fish and goldfish, so I guess I actually did quite well, though the grind was ridiculously long since I also had to level from zero and caught a ton of junk first.

    Sorry for the long story, but I spent a lot of time reading all the other stories of those who got theirs trying to keep my spirits up, so I thought I would help others with mine. It was a huge surprise when I wasn't expecting it in the least!

    She looks wonderful with my 'speedy' the turtle that I got today also! ;)

    (addition: tonight (the day after getting the turtle) I caught the giant sewer rat!!!)

    Woot, just got it, finally. Funny thing, I didn't actually "see" it. I play in windowed-mode. I started the cast, alt-tabbed, reading mmo-champion.

    Heard the bobber, alt-tabbed in, clicked the bobber, immediately alt-tabbed out, read some more. Half a second later or so I hear the "Achievement!!!" sound and my heart skips a beat. ^^

    Freakin awesome. ^^

    The first time I checked those statistics was about two or three days after I started farming the thing, I had already done a few hours-long sessions for it. Back then I was at like 6k/9k or 6k/8k, something like that, on those two statistics.

    5000 casts. I had over 150 fish feasts and assorted dragonfin/monsterbelly/manta ray/fangtooth herring stacks laying around. I also have stacks of waterwalking potions now as well as thousands of pygmy oils, sigh.
    I fished in every kind of pool I could find, averaging about 4 hours on the days I actually got to fish.
    The turtle finally came up from a sculpin pool in Borean, in the lake there.

    Today i decided to go "Hard core grind" for the turtle in Grizzly hills, sins this wonderfull webpage stated it would be best to grind for it in the Salmon Schools, and so i did...

    I wasnt expecting much.. Maybe get the Dark Herring if i was lucky, but i was sure the turtle wouldnt show itself before in maybe.. 4-5-6 Months of fishing....

    But i was wrong...

    After 3 minutes and a couple of seconds, i sudenly saw a blue icon item lying in my bag... I was shaking irl.. I just could not belive this.. after barely 20-22 casts in a couple of salmon schools, i had it... I realy had it!!! And if thats not enough, i had gotten a LOTH else in the same day.. after 1 hour of grinding i got the coin achivement, and i also got my hands on Mr.Pinchy (Which today gave me his box, and also i caught the rat!) So from this day onward, i got every single fishing achivement, every single croco pet, and so on..

    I now have the power to say; Im a worthy Fisherman!!!
    And i give you all my warmest wishes on catching the turtle! And NEVER Give up!!! LK~

    I got my Sea Turtle on my first cast... I was getting ready to spend months looking for this bugger. I guess this is my payback for spending 3 months trying to catch a Mr. Pinchy. Lol.

    I hear the drop rate is really really low, so I feel pretty damn lucky right about now. Maybe I should go give Mr. Pinchy and the sewer rat another shot ;)

    Oh, I caught her from a school of Fangtooth Herring (the first pool I actually fished from in Northrend) right in front of Fort Wildervar.

    Got it this morning doing the Monsterbelly daily on the ice bergs near Dragonblight..

    Not sure how many fish I've caught since I started trying but I've been fishing nr pools for 2 weeks straight for about an hour per outing. Was very surprised to have gotten it, since I haven't put in the time that many others have.

    Now - Shh be very very quite I'm hunting rats.
