[Fishing] Weather Beaten Fishing Hat data?

  1. Doby <Salty>, 9 months ago:

Hello everyone, I've perused the site and haven't found any specific data about the hat's drop rate. With that in mind, I was wondering if those of you who have obtained it could help me out by answering the following:

What quest were you on when you got it?

How many daily fishing quests did you do before you got it?

What fishing gear (including pole) were you using when you got it?

What fishing level were you when you got it?

What fishing gear did you own but wasn't necessarily equipped when you got it?

If anyone can think of any other pertinent information or questions to ask, please feel free. It could just be determined by RNG, but I was hoping to nail that down if so.

  2. Faela <Salty>, 9 months ago:

I've got it twice, but I really doubt any of that other stuff is at all related. I'm pretty confident it IS just determined by RNG. I can't imagine Blizzard would put in an item with a droprate that depends on what you're wearing.

But if you really want to know:

I got my first one sometime last year, I really can't remember what I was doing or what quest it was. 375 fishing.

The second one was last week from Crocolisks in the City (would have much rather had a croc, stupid duplicate hat). 450 fishing.

I own Arcanite pole and fishing boots. I had Lucky Fishing Hat when I got the first one of these, but not when I got the second one (since I vendored the old hat after I got the new one). I don't own a Kaluak pole.

Both of my 70+ characters have gotten the hat. I don't remember which daily they were on. Both characters were using Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole and both had fishing skill somewhere between 375 and 400. I don't think your skill level and gear has anything to do with the drop rate .

My druid had probably done 20-25 dailies before it dropped, my mage 10-15. Aside from the hats, I've gotten two Eye of the Sea, one Spun Truesilver Fishing Line and one Chuck's Bucket. I've also gotten three Mr. Pinchy and two Pinchy pets.

  4. Triseult <Salty>, 9 months ago:

Pretty sure this is just the RNG... I.e. it's a flat chance of getting it. But just to answer your questions anyway:

What quest were you on when you got it?

    Shrimpin' Ain't Easy

How many daily fishing quests did you do before you got it?

Don't remember exactly, but as an estimate, I'd say 120, maybe a bit more.

What fishing gear (including pole) were you using when you got it?

Arcanite Fishing Pole with Eternium Line, Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots, gloves with Fishing enchant.

What fishing level were you when you got it?

    450

What fishing gear did you own but wasn't necessarily equipped when you got it?

None. I did have Captain Rhumsey's Lager and Sharpened Fishing Hook in my bags, but I don't need them in Outland.

Wowhead data for this suggests a 1% chance from any of the "Bag of Fishing Treasures". Once the chance gets that low, the drop rate ceases to have real meaning: There's far to much luck involved. At such low drop rates it also becomes very hard to prove any pattern, even if there is one. Yet simultaneously human nature reacts to randomness by trying to find a pattern...

  6. Raeliss <Angler>, 9 months ago:

The only thing you can say is at the very least it appears the same drop rate from Crocolisks In the City as any of the other quests, as these Fishing Treasure bags are listed as separate items on Wowhead. They all show 1% drop. I very much suspect it's 1% chance from any of the quests.

I got mine not long after reaching 70. Maybe after 10-15 quests or so. I've no idea which quest I was on, and my fishing skill would have been 375.

  7. Azaguth <Salty>, 9 months ago:

I honestly don't think any of your questions matter, since none of those variables have changed for me in the last week other than which quest I was on...and I've done that one 3 times.

What quest were you on when you got it?
    Shrimpin' Ain't Easy

How many daily fishing quests did you do before you got it?
45 or so, I'm not sure exactly...just got it this week (couple days ago), and I can't check my statistics from work (wow armory is blocked).

What fishing gear (including pole) were you using when you got it?
The only fishing gear I was using was the Arcanite Fishing Pole with high-test eternium line, but it wasn't equipped when I turned in the quest, it was used to fish up the shrimp. In my bag were also the Hook of the Master Angler, boots and hat from STV, and a stack of 20 captain rumsey's lager, as well as some Sharpened Fishing Hooks, but none of those 5 items were even used to fish up the shrimp, much less equipped/in use when I turned in the quest.

What fishing level were you when you got it?
450 (490 when I fished up the shrimp)

What fishing gear did you own but wasn't necessarily equipped when you got it?
    I answered that above.

Side note, yay, I don't have to carry lures or lager anymore. 500 from equipment, +75 from the hat lure. No need for the glove enchant.

I've won the STV contest twice, caught 2 Mr Pinchy's, 1 dark herring, and done every accomplishment except the Old Crafty and Old Ironjaw ones and I have not been able to get this hat to drop for me :( Every day it's just a broken spyglass and some sharpened hooks.

  9. Gummo <The Pacifist>, 9 months ago:

Noor finally got the hat today, after doing the fishing daily pretty much every day since Nov. 15, so about 90 tries. I've heard that after you get the hat, you stop getting fishhooks and instead get water-walking pots.

  10. Faela <Salty>, 9 months ago:

I wish that were so. I'm getting pretty sick of the sight of fishhooks.

  11. Gummo <The Pacifist>, 9 months ago:

Yep, the day after I still got fishhooks, and since I just won the fishing hat, I got another fishing hat...

/cry......I've seen nothing but fishhooks and grey junk for weeks now,and I'm startng to run low on pots for the comp. Highlight of the last few days was getting a couple of Jaggal pearls.

At this point after months of doing the dailies,I'd eat my own shoes for the hat :/

  13. Leny <Salty>, 8 months ago:

69 dailys and no hat... went and looked at a random horde in dal who had the hat... he had done 7... saw another one with the hat... he had done 14

  14. Faela <Salty>, 8 months ago:

That only tells you how many dailies they've done since the achievement system came in. They could have done a lot more before that.

  15. cpengel <Salty>, 8 months ago:

What quest were you on when you got it?
    ...the mudfish quest

How many daily fishing quests did you do before you got it?
... 3 weeks worth, or thereabouts

What fishing gear (including pole) were you using when you got it?
...Lucky Fishing Hat and Big Iron Fishing Pole

What fishing level were you when you got it?
    ...419

What fishing gear did you own but wasn't necessarily equipped when you got it?
...sharpened hooks & aquadynamic fish attracator

  16. setsuko <Salty>, 8 months ago:

I do not have the hat. This is some information from the opposite side of the spectrum.

I do the fishing daily on 2 characters every day, one of which I've been doing the dailies on since TBC, the other just since November of last year. I've gotten a monocle x1, Eye of the Sea x3, Muckbreath x2 (lol at getting the same pet on the same character twice), fishing line x3, and no hat.

Both characters have been 450 for a while. One has arcanite rod, other has kalu'ak rod. Stupid hat :|

Ok, it seems the promise to eat my own shoes finally paid off :D
I finally got the hat a few days ago, and much cheering and congratulations from my guild ensued, so here goes.......
    *gulp*
    *holds nose*
*tears chunk of slightly muddy, rather 'well-loved' leather from boot with teeth*
    *gags slightly, and swallows*
    *turns a bit green*

Er...I don't have to finish it all do I ?

*turns a rather frightening shade of green*
    *runs away to nearest outhouse........*
