For those who like to dress up their characters in cool outfits that have nothing to do with stats, I thought I’d let you know that the new Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat has the same graphic as the Crochet Hat (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=8749). The crochet hat has always been my favorite wide brim hat in game. Cashara, my female dwarf hunter, had a crochet hat as part of her running around town outfit. Now I can pass it onto an alt, as her weather-beaten fishing hat uses that most excellent graphic.

It's funny. I really dislike the fact that they introduced a new hat to replace the one I spent so many hours in the tourney trying to get.
But I want one... so.... badly.... ;-)
- Characters: Pipre (US-Cenarius), Petre.
- Aquarium: Salty, 1 Ring, and 7 more...

I found this pretty odd. I've been level 70 forever now. I've never really fished. I believe my skill was a pathetic 150ish. I saw there was a new fishing daily so I thought I'd try to do it. I grabbed the quest, ported to SW and fished in the canal for one cast and got the quest fish. I ported back to Shatt and turned in the daily quest. In the bag was this fishing hat, and some fish hooks. I then asked my guild how they all got theirs and they about fainted because none of them had even seen one yet. Crazy luck I guess. By the way +75 skill from the use of the hat is priceless.

You can get some idea of the drop chance from Wowhead. Their figures match the gut feeling from the PTRs: The two blues are under 1%. That's worse than the Stormchops recipe drop from the cooking daily... which only took me 3 months to get.
At the time of writing, they still haven't recorded a 2 Ring (from almost 2000 bags looted). That probably explains why it is fetching about 2000g at auction at the moment. The daily fishing quest is basically the National Lottery of Azeroth.
- Character: El (EU-Ravenholdt).
- Aquarium: Salty, 1 Ring, and 10 more...

No way!
I just posted about getting the hat in the first 'pull' :D
Calling that 'luck' - now it seems less like luck. Maybe something different governs the 'drop rate'... :DEl says: I deleted your earlier post and moved the content here. One thread on one topic is easier to read than lots of little separate topics.
Hi All.
I just had to say that in public :D
The Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat is rarely contained in Bags of Fishing Treasure, the reward for completing the Daily Fishing Quests. ((It is only available with Patch 2.4.)) Expect to complete Daily Fishing Quests regularly over several months before finding this hat.
With base skill 290, plus Seth's pole, plus bright bauble and for the FIRST time I took the daily fishing quest. And gues what? After no more than five minutes I got The Hat! :D I could not believe it so I started to laugh to myself :D LOL
That is what you call 'lucky' ;)

I kind of wish you hadn’t said that. I have four characters doing the fishing daily every day. I’ve gotten TWO fishing hats… both on the same character. I had to vendor the second one. Knowing the odds makes me feel even worse about that. *sniff*

I think I just had the most insane drop luck ever, Toothy's Bucket, fishing hat, AND +15 sta gem, all in one bag... plus a shadow pearl to round it out! I really didn't think it'd be possible to get so much good stuff in one bag; suspect I used up all my luck for a month or more with that little haul though!
Nice one on the hat graphic, I always have helms disabled so hadn't actually seen that yet, might turn it on sometimes when I'm fishing now :-)
- Characters: Sagart (EU-Draenor), Balgair.
- Aquarium: Coin Master, Crafty, and 3 more...

under 1%... That means its very possible, close to likely in fact, that a lot of people will spend 3-4 or more months fishing to see this item drop. I'll put the time, though I hope it doesn't take me that long!

You can always "sell" truesilver lines by applying them to non-soulbound fishing poles for people, like the big iron fishing pole.
- Characters: Reinisch (US-The Venture Co.), Noor (US-Maiev).
- Aquarium: 1 Ring, Away, and 8 more...

Can you enchant someones fishing pole in a trade? (non trade box) ?

This surprises me. I would have assumed that using something like that on an equipped item that isn’t bound to you would make it so. But I guess it’s like enchanting a magic item you never equip. That’s good to know. I have several big iron fishing poles I can use them on and pass them to lower level characters.

Unless it changed recently, you can enchant a non-bound fishing pole and then trade it to another player or character. You cannot apply line enchants via the trade window or successfully sell the enchanted pole at auction, so you have less options than regular enchanting.
This isn't as great as it sounds. The best pole you can enchant and trade is the +20 Big Iron. Most Horde already have the BoP +25 Pagle pole, so there is nothing to gain from adding 3 or 5 to a +20 pole. And for Alliance, you still have to find the +20 Big Iron Fishing Pole, which takes a lot longer than gaining Seth's +20 pole.

Am I the only one who enjoyed going after the BIFP on the alliance side? I’d either take my paladin with his Deepdive Helm or my hunter with his Hydrocane and run a circuit opening traps. My tailor also made a sash for each of them that sped up their swim speed. It was rather like a treasure hunt. Between the poles I used for all my characters and what I gathered for friends I must have looted over twenty of those poles back in the day.
I don’t know how well they would sell with lines attacked to them, but they would be very useful for alts. The BIFP can be used starting at level 25. The horde can’t pick up the quest for Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 until level 44. The alliance can’t get Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole until level 62. So an alt could make good use of a BIFP with a +3 or +5 line on it before he/she was high enough level for an upgrade.
