4.0.6 Fishing (Live)
Patch 4.0.6 is going live. Highlights:
- Seafood Magnifique Feast ingredients halved: Now viable for 10-raider groups.
- Gikkix's old cooking recipes are now taught by trainers: Training cooking with fishing 250-275 is much easier again.
- Scalding Murglesnout: Finally a use for Murglesnout!
Azeroth Daily Fishing (and cooking) quests are not currently giving skill-ups(fixed).
Read on for a full list of changes:
Casting
- A new fishing cursor (illustrated).
- Bobber does not splash at the very end of the spell cast bar anymore. The cast time has become longer, but the average time to catch a fish may have decreased slightly - see Moonraker’s observations.
Equipment
- "Rare fishing poles" (Bone Fishing Pole and Jeweled Fishing Pole) in reward from Azeroth Daily Fishing Quests (via official notes). Reward bag may also contains Recipe: Captain Rumsey's Lager and Weather-Beaten Journal.
- Heat-Treated Spinning Lure lasts 15 minutes (up from 5). The Engineering schematic now makes 2 lures, not just one.
- Feathered Lure recipe is sold again by Stormwind and Orgrimmar daily cooking quest vendors.
- Glass Fishing Bobber should now give +15 skill (temporarily?), but is bugged and cannot be used.
- Hotfix: Bone Fishing Pole now gives +5 Shadow Resistance (down from 40).
Cooking
- Seafood Magnifique Feast cooked with 2 of each fish (down from 4).
- Scalding Murglesnout – a non-buff food, cooked from 3 Murglesnout. Sold by Stormwind and Orgrimmar daily cooking quest vendors for 3 Chef’s Awards. Requires cooking skill 500.
- Recipes for Grilled Squid, Nightfin Soup, Poached Sunscale Salmon and Spotted Yellowtail now trained from cooking trainers.
- Feathered Lure recipe is sold again by Stormwind and Orgrimmar daily cooking quest vendors.
Achievements
- "Turtles all the Way Down" (Sea Turtle achievement) description officially confirms catches from Cataclysm pools. Tol Barad is not listed, but turtle catches there will still count towards the achievement.
Stranglethorn Extravaganza
- Inland Tastyfish pools removed.
- Starting announcement heard in Northern Stranglethorn, but the winner and ending announcements cannot be heard (discussion).
Unconfirmed
- Reinforced Fishing Line +1 fishing skill line (applied to your pole). Update: Found in Stendel's Bane.
- "Venture Co. Archaeology Crates", containing archaeology fragments. 8 crates have been data-mined, one for each archaeology race. These have not yet been found while fishing - further discussion.

Thank you El. As always, you fill a niche that is unmatched and unrivaled by the most popular of WoW websites!
The new casting dynamic sounds like a decent buff to accuracy and reliability. Let's hope that the "3-second" catch becomes the majority! [wink]
Lauris, February 2011:
Just logged on live and wanted to add that pygmy oil and sucker fish now will go into the lure master tackle box, probably among others. Cooked fish still don't seem to go there though.
Keith Vancil, February 2011:
So did we not used to get skill ups for doing the cooking and fishing dailies in SW? I did both today and got no skill pts.
el, February 2011:
It's a bug, Keith - http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2046966002
Keith Vancil, February 2011:
Ah, thanks el. Just did it with an alt to make sure I wasn't missing it when I saw your reply.
Keith Vancil, February 2011:
Dailies were giving skill ups today.
Eilhan, February 2011:
I just got Recipe: Captain Rumsey's Lager from the reward bag from the Stormwind Fishing quest. haven't seen that one before. Caught it on a lvl 53 character with 393 skill fishing and 468 skill cooking. New addition to the loot tables today?
el, February 2011:
Thanks Eilhan. The loot tables for the bag certainly have changed. I also noticed a Weather-Beaten Journal in there.
Xethnyrrow, February 2011:
The duration of the fishing bar is shorter now. It moves noticeably faster than before which means faster fishing!
yveny, February 2011:
i did get a bone fishing pole today 2/13 from the daily sw fishing quest.

One thing a couple people have noticed on Wowhead but I didn't see mentioned here; the Uldum schools of Fathom Eels have gone missing since 4.0.6. So the only place to find Fathom Eel Swarms is in Tol Barad, if I'm not mistaken. :<
el, February 2011:
Fathom Eels schools are still found in Uldum. I was fishing them a few days ago, and checked again just now. I suspect what has happened is that demand for Fathom Eel has increased because of the Seafood Magnifique Feast change, so these pools may be quite intensively farmed.
