    Golden Darter O.o

    I had played the game for almost a year before BC came out but had never gotten past lvl 5 fishing on any of my toons. When we started raiding in BC I was spending boat loads of money buying Golden Fishsticks every day. A good friend of mine saw how much I played but that I wasn't farming them myself. He told me about this cool site called Elsanglin.com. I must have spent a week going through every post on this site and then a day or three to level my fishing. I was so proud of myself the first time I caught enough darters to cook a stack all on my own! From then on, fishing has been one of my favorite professions. I have 5 toons with 525 fishing as well as cooking thanks to all the fish I catch!

    Well, it appears that links are blocked for some odd reason....so here's a snippet of the post (to make sure I have an eligible entry).

    My Proudest Catch: Mr. Pinchy

    My Luck With Rare Mounts And Pets

    Why am I most proud of this cute little red guy? Well, he's super rare for one. I have heard horror stories of players fishing for him for over a year with no luck. Well, for some reason I have been ridiculously lucky when it comes to acquiring rare vanity pets and rare dropped mounts. You may remember last year when I got both the Swift Razzashi Raptor and the Swift Zulian Tiger from the same run. Or you may recall me discussing how I got my Headless Horseman's Mount (back when it was uber-rare before the dungeon auto queues) as the 2nd time it dropped in the same instance group! Or the X-53 Touring Rocket I got from buying in trade chat that turned out to be one of the very few legit transactions that wasn't a scam.

    Mr. Pinchy My Luckiest Catch

    Well I truely believe that Mr. Pinchy started off this entire mount and pet lucky streak. Many players had a hell of time fishing for Mr. Pinchy from the pools in Terrokar Forest. Once you fish him up you aren't even guaranteed the pet. He will grant you 3 wishes and getting the pet is the rarest of the options he will grant. Well, truth be told, I got Mr. Pinchy out of my 3rd or 4th pool that I attempted granting me the Mr. Pinchy's Magical Crawdad Box Achievement and with my first wish he granted me Mr. Pinchy the vanity pet! So Mr. Pinchy this one is for you! You have truly been magical to me! Thanks for all the great luck you have brought to me over the years. Mr. Pinchy's luck also helped me to fish up Old Crafty within my first 20 casts in Ogrimmar. Mr. Pinchy, I love you.

    I'm gonna go with getting the achievement Deadliest Catch. Doing Nat Pagle's quest then fishing up Gahz'ranka in ZG was a highlight. I love Nat's lore and quests. I still have his lucky fishing pole along with Nat Pagle's Broken Reel that dropped from Gahz'ranka after I fished him up. The fact that it's now a Feat of Strength is cool.

    Other highlights from fishing have been fishing up the turtle mount and getting the hat and jeweled fishing pole from the daily quest reward.

    Still looking to win a fishing tourny, though. I'm betting that will be my biggest highlight when it comes, especially since it's my last requirement for Salty.

  4. Blakstone, January 2011:

    The 1 Ring

    While I have had some really lucky catches in my time (Mr. Pinchy on the third catch), I am most proud of my 1 Ring. It does not count towards any title or achievement. It is not very power as it only adds 1 to each of your stats.

    It is, however, a wonderful homage to Lord of the Rings. Instead of Smeagol catching the ring while fishing, my lowbie mage did. Even though I could have auctioned it off, I proudly wear and plan on keeping it forever. I doubt I will be corrupted and turn evil since it is not even quite as good as the 2 ring.

  5. Babycarrot, January 2011:

    I'm proudest of my first catch of The Lurker Below. When my 25-man raid reached the boss, and the question went around of "So, who can fish up the boss?", I was the only one with the maxed skill and equipment necessary to do so. The best part? Caught him on my very first cast! Of course, people were not ready for such a quick "summon" and we wiped, but it was the catch I remember the most of all the fish I have pulled out of the water!

  6. Bill Shilling, January 2011:

    I was always fishing in the raised lakes in terrokar forest trying to catch mr pinchy and could never get him. So I gave up. Well a couple weeks before cataclysm came out I Was waiting for my wife in terrokar and decided to fish for the fun of it. The FIRST CAST WAS MR PINCHY. I was so excited I danced around the room my wife laughed her ass off and I stopped in mid frolick to complain about RNGs and she thought that was even funnier.

  7. Christopher, January 2011:

    Well....my most proudest catch would have to be the 40 catches of tasty fish i got in STV during the contest the 1st time i won down there.I am on a PvP server,Smolderthorn,pretty dead now but at the time it was alive,thriving and completely Horde dominated,I think the ratio at the time was estimated to be 80% to 20% in the Hordes favor.It was at least my 14th or 15th try,i was ganked 2 times but i refused to stop....and low and behold i caught that 40th fish and still had not seen the winner announced,so I hearthed back to the inn and BAMMO.......I took my trinket,danced around in celebration and was promptly spit on by a Tauren warrior......I almost tear up when i look at the screen shot and think back......

  8. Patty, January 2011:

    The catch I'm most proud of is the second time I got Mr. Pinchy. Besides being an avid pet collector, I am also trying to get the Salty title for my mage. The first time around I never got the pet and it probably was another year before I really tried again. His first wish the second time? The pet! So yeah, I was pretty happy about that. Especially since I had also been trying on my warlock, my Horde pet collector, and never got it. Alas, I'm still trying to get one of the super rare ones for One That Didn't Get Away.

  9. Underwood, January 2011:

    My most proud catch had to be the Sea Turtle, by far.

    I spent days fishing out on the ice in Borean Tundra, with guildmates occasionally getting concerned and even flying out to check if I had been hacked. Some joined in the fishing of nodes, but I was there for almost a week of sessions.

    When I finally caught him, the girlish squeal I emitted practically shattered every glass object in a four mile radius. Our adventures in Vash'jir were unforgettable.

    Nothing I ever catch will mean more to me.

  10. Poneria, January 2011:

    I was probably catching junk, but I was fishing in Ironforge on my then-low-level human rogue, who is on a roelplaying server. An 80 undead warlock was also fishing in the back -- in that one spot you can stand on in the back without aggroing the guards constantly. I /waved to him, he /waved back, and we continued to fish.

    Then he came over and sat down right next to me. He opened up the romantic picnic basket, then sat down again, and he'd get up to refresh it if the umbrella disappeared. We continued to fish together for a while, low-level and level 80, rogue and warlock, human and undead, Alliance and Horde.

    Eventually a group of Alliance 80s started to gather around and debate whether to beat the snot out of the warlock, even though he was in serious PvP gear, so they surmised it would probably be the opposite result. One of them whispered me to ask if I knew this guy -- after all, it was an RP server, maybe it was planned RP. I said it wasn't, but begged in emotes for them not to kill the warlock.

    Eventually the warlock got run out of IF, but soon after that I got a whisper from an Ally lamenting that the fishing expedition had been ruined. That's the best bout of fishing I can remember, and now I always like to emote & movement-RP more around fishermen/women, even on my home PvE server.

  11. Chikkensoop, January 2011:

    Has to be the 40th tastyfish the *second* time I won the stranglethorn fishing extravaganza... I can honestly say I don't think I've ever seen anyone else ever use the Hook of the Master Angler trinket, and it reminds me of the panic and adrenaline rush as I won it every time I use it!

  12. grreymage, January 2011:

    I would have to say it was when I won the Stranglethorn Fishing tourney. I had just finished fishing up the last of the forty tastyfish when I realized halfway through my hearthstone it was still set for Shattrath. I jumped on my Charger and galloped pell-mell for Booty Bay. After a 2 Minute run i made it barely ahead of another ally who was just coming out of the inn. Man, he complained when I told I had to hoof it from Gurubashi Arena to turn it in. ;D

  13. Pipre, January 2011:

    Ironjaw. Why? Because it took Pipre over 6500 casts to catch that punk! I have him preserved and mounted above my guild bank!

    PS: When did El's switch to WordPress?!

    El says: The news has been using Wordpress for 3+ years.

  14. Tïnkër, January 2011:

    My most proud catch...
    It would most defiantly be Mr Pinchy, after days and days of farming I had started to loose hope until i just accepted i would never ever get the magical crawdad box... untill i had chosen to get try one last time to get him and 1st catch he was MINE!!!

    So happy that day =) and now people walk up and say where'd you get the pet and i say "Blood, sweat and Tears" LOL

  15. Nevaron, January 2011:

    My most proud catch was my first catch. A Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper. I know it's not much, but it was the first thing I ever caught. I caught it in Stormwind. I still got it in my bank :')

  16. Lohm, January 2011:

    Out of contest, because i live in Europe :( :
    My most proud catch was when i won the stranglethorn fishing extravaganza for the third time. I now have the pole and two Hook of the Master Angler trinkets. I still remember this female horde hunter spitting on me because i already had the "salty" title.

    Lohm

  17. Fracturedchaos, January 2011:

    Mr. Pinchy, by far.

    Not because I had to fish him up once

    or even twice

    but three times (on the last charge >.<) to get him

    I kept getting the angry mobs.

    Sooooo aggravating xD

  18. Sabromex, January 2011:

    Blackfin Darter, the quest turn in for Old Man Barlo. This was my last catch into becoming Salty Sabromex. But it wasn't for a title that I wanted for my character, it was the fish.

    The Blackfin Darter, otherwise known as Black D. has had my attention for some time. Ever since we elected a new president. All I've ever wanted to do was catch this lil'darter and hand him off to Barlo so he could do whatever he pleased with it.

    I am still hoping to this day that Black D. becomes a rap sensation.

    They'll call it, "The Bait Bandits".

  19. Rexxist, January 2011:

    My luckiest and favortie catch is definetly when i caught the sea turtle.

    It was around 5 in the morning and i had been fishing for 12 hours srtaight i felt so amazing i fell off my chair and broke my leg. IT WAS WORTH THE TURTLE!

  20. Trokair, January 2011:

    Like a lot of anglers, my favorite catch was my hardest...and for me, the hardest was Mr. Pinchy.

    EIGHT MONTHS of constant fishing. For Thanksgiving break (which I spend up north with my parents) I actually brought my computer with me so I could fish during the holiday down time. I lost count of how many casts... this was before I even knew about Fishing Buddy. This goes back a few years... but I still remember my excitement.

    When I finally caught the beast, I left the apartment I was living in at the time and ran circles around the apartment complex... no exaggeration!

    My luck was rewarded... I got the Crawdad from that first Pinchy. I would go on to catch him again... but nothing is like the first time!

  21. Royi, January 2011:

    My favorite fishing experience, like many others was when I won the STV fishing tourney. Because of fatherhood I have never been able to participate in either the Saturday Kaluak derby, or the STV one on Sundays (I only allow myself to play WOW at night). I did manage to participate in a STV tourney back late 2008 and I got to do one Kaluak derby soon after it came out, so I'm a relative newcomer. I happened to be breaking my own rule of no WOW when the kids were up as I was watching my baby girl Emersyn (also my characters name). I had read up a lot on how the STV tourney works, set my appropriate hearth to BB, and camped out on the northeastern coastline as far as I could manage to go.

    My main goal was maybe snag one of those Green fish to get either a hat, or boots, or the lure. So the contest started, I just kept fishing by pressing "f" that was hotkeyed to the fishing skill, while letting my daughter take up my other hand while she played with Cheerios on the table. A few minutes went by, I remember thinking "theres no one around up here"... then BAM a achievement flashed up on my screen, I had gotten the Rockhide Strongfish :) http://www.wowhead.com/item=19808

    I was pretty excited, and then just kept on fishing, with my daughter happily content beside me. It was weird I was getting up there in Tastyfish, around 30 before I even saw another player, then all of a sudden there were fishermen and fisherwomen everywhere. I started to get that "tense" feeling just waiting for someone to announce a winner... but no one did.... I just kept fishing and now I had to start moving from pools to pools for the competition for the pools started to grow. I had no idea where other people were at... but just kept at it... Got to 35... then 36...... then luckily I got 37,38,39, and 40 all from the same pool that I somehow managed to use all by myself.

    Hit the hearth, (thanked the internet provider for the quick load) and used my rocket boots to boost towards the finishline, randomly picked a reward (didn't want to lose any time, got the fishing pole) and hit Submit. Phew... what a ride.

    I was only around 220 fishing skill too, I guess fishing skill doesn't have much to do with %chance of getting a Tastyfish rather than something else... or else I'm just darn lucky.

    I thank my daughter to this day, and when she's big enough to understand me talking I'll remind her about the day she was my lil' luck charm :) (I also was holding her when I was fortunate enough to catch TLPD after a week or so of camping)

  22. Dainn, January 2011:

    I think my most memorable experience was getting Mr. Pinchy. I spent a good month fishing that area and most of the mobs were yellow+ to me. It was real extreme fishing, and I grew eyes on the back of my head because of those vicious walking trees. I still take pleasure killing them (how you like me now!).

    That silly little crab followed me for a good month after I finally got him. He is still my favorite vanity pet by far.

    I would have liked my experience to be my turtle, but I am about 10k casts (most before Cata of course), and still no turtle. Maybe the next 10k will be lucky! :)

  23. Rustkill, January 2011:

    I've always dreamed of getting a fishing chair, but could never justify the money. Unfortunately I live in Australia so I miss out again this time. Here's the story of me catching Old Crafty anyway. Copy and Pasted from a previous post from a good while ago now:

    Call me Ishmael. Wait.. wrong story.

    This story is about outsmarting the elusive Old Crafty. Let me explain...

    Rustkill is a young gnome rogue. He spends a good part of his days training in the ways of the rogue and doing his best to protect the innocent. Among his guild he is respected as a vicious executioner of the self-proclaimed 'bosses' that loom over Azeroth and the Outlands. There are few adversaries that have thwarted him for very long, and he prides himself on being quick of mind as well as quick of weapon.

    Rustkill is also an avid fisherman. On the days he is not assaulting the dungeons of evil maniacs he loves nothing more than to spend his time fishing. Comfortable in his favourite fishing outfit, and protected from the sun by his favourite hat, Rustkill loves the sound of water lapping and fishing bobbers splashing. Fishing has taken Rustkill many places and provided much relaxation (not to mention a little coin). Over the last few months though, his pass-time has led him to the brink of insanity.

    Some time ago, word came to Rustkill about two elusive fish. Old Ironjaw of Ironforge and Old Crafty of Orgrimmar. In hushed tones, spoken by fisherman in inns and taverns around the world Rustkill learnt of these fish and became excited. Catching fish like these was just the kind of challenge he enjoyed!

    Old Ironjaw proved to be somewaht less than elusive. After only a few afternoons fishing near the place he first learnt the craft, Rustkill fished up Old Ironjaw from the water and smiled with delight. With his prize safely swimming in his bank's safe deposit aquarium Rustkill set his sights toward Kalimdor. Old Crafty would soon be Rustkill's... Or would he?

    Day passed. Then weeks. As weeks turned into months Rustkill was sure than he could see the rocks wearing away at his home away from home. Indeed, as he snuck into Orgrimmar and took his place under the waterfall his short Gnomish legs slid comfortably into place on his usual rock. He slipped some bait onto the hook and cast. And cast. And cast. Day turned to night as it had so many times. The roar of the waterfall and the splash of fish became the soundtrack to Rustkill's life. Occasionally a horde fisherman would discover him and make strange gestures towards him. Whether they were encouraging him or simply pitying him was unclear. Sometime a hunter would take offence to the young rogue sitting so near to their trainers and would accost him. Many times he was forced to part from his body for a time - forced to travel across the countryside before being reborn to the waterfall and the crafty fish somewhere below the surface of the water.

    But then Rustkill heard word spreading between the fishermen at the taverns. Of course, Rustkill knew of the baby crocolisks that have been appearing in the cities. He himself had helped Old Man Barlow by catching the young critters in Stormwind. But the tales he heard in the inn were something altogether more interesting. It seemed the perhaps Old Crafty had a weakness after all!

    Rustkill began to formulate a plan. His nemesis had eluded him for longer than he cared to think about. It seems like nothing Rustkill tried could draw the devil-fish from it's underwater hideout. The rumours pulled at Rustkill until he became resolute. Only a few days pass before Barlow told Rustkill that once again, children had lost baby crocs in the cities. Rustkill grinned devilishly and packed his rod and line. He was about to head to Orgrimmar, the home of his adversary when he ran into one of his friends. His quest for the crafty fish of Kalimdor would have to wait. It seemed the Headless Horseman had reared his ugly... hmm... well he was causing trouble.

    We join Rustkill as he battles the horseman...

    Rustkill and his friends strike down the headless horseman again and again. The horseman is fierce, Rustkill supposes, but as the headless rider rages against Rustkill and his friends the gnome can hardly concentrate. All he can think about is Old Crafty. Luckily, soon enough the threat of the horseman is contained for another day. And even more fortunately, thinks Rustkill, there is a zepplin tower that leads straight the front door of the slimy fish who taunts him so. With a laugh, Rustkill rides to the tower, slips through the grasps of the horde guards and leaps onto the Zepplin. Soon enough he is outside Orgrimmar. He grits his teeth and heads inside.

    Splash splash splash. Rustkill arrives, rod in hand, determined to finally catch his foe. Sure enough, he can see the blurred shapes of crocolisks swimming in the distance. He feeds some bait onto his hook and casts. As expected a crocolisk rushes up greedily. As bad as he feels, Rustkill releases the little menace back into the water. He casts again... The waters teem as fish take flight from the crocs and again Rustkill pulls one of the six-legged beasts up. "Perhaps Old Carfty is braver than I thought", thinks Rustkill. But he tries again. Two more times the crocs take hold of Rustkill's hook. But Crafty is nowhere to be seen. Suddenly though, Rustkill sees an unusual shape dart out from the rocks near a crocolisk, just at the edge of his peripheral vision. Could it be?!

    Rustkill flicks his wrists, sending the line out over the water. Ploink! His cast is a good one! (It has better be after all this practise!) The dark, sinister shape circles the water under the bobber, moving closer, then away, then closer, then away again. Crocs are approaching the hook as well, closing in from all directions. The dark shape has nowhere else to go...

    Splash! The bobber bobs and Rustkill throws himself backwards. The water parts and his line flies upward. Time seems to stand still as a fish and a crocolisk burst up into the sunshine together. As Rustkill reels in his line, the fish throws itself back and forth, but it is securely hooked - the croc has taken the bait too and is preventing the fish from escaping. Rustkill has never felt such a struggle, but he remains strong and pulls the fish over his bucket and spins it around to look it in the eye. He gasps!

    With a laugh that rings with relief and excitement (and maybe just a little sadness) Rustkill lowers Old Crafty into his bucket. Finally the fish that has eluded him for song has been outsmarted. Rustkill takes out his hearthstone and makes his way home. Old Crafty joins Old Ironjaw in the bank and Rustkill enjoys a few brews at the tavern. His day had started out like many others, but for Rustkill, the day had ended with more smiles than he could remember smiling ever before. Finally his task was complete.

    The gnome would sleep well that night, for the legendary fish of Orgrimmar was his at last.

    ---

    So! After more than 2100 casts trying to catch Old Craft the old fashioned way I decided that I needed to see if Old Crafty would swim to an alliance hook when accosted by crocs in the same way that he did for the horde. I am happy to say that he did. I got the crocs in the city quest and headed to Org (with a slight stop-over at the Scarlet Monastery!). I turned auto-loot off and started fishing. On my first catch I had a croc and a generic fish. I closed the loot window and tried again. The same thing happened. I was slightly discouraged, but determined to keep trying. After a few more casts my theory was confirmed! There was Crafty, along with a baby crocolisk. I clicked the slippery guy and okay'ed the confirmation and the he was finally was mine! This may in fact be a bug, but I simply could not pass up the chance to finally see my nemesis face to face. To my fellow Crafty Hunters I can only offer you good luck. I was forced to resort to trickery to catch Old Crafty... but if he was fishing forme I'm sure he'd do the same. They don't call him crafty for nothing!!

  24. Topher McIntyre, January 2011:

    I am most proud of catching Old Ironjaw. I am Horde on my server, and spent several days camped in Ironforge to accomplish it. I was unable to count the number of casts, but it was near 1,600 because I had to drop fish out of my inventory to continue fishing.

    I did it back when you could still fish in the lava, so I used the hidden perch trick behind the wheel. For the most part it was uneventful, but every now and then a hunter or druid would detect my presence and jump in the lava trying to find me.

    Having not a lot else to do while I was farming that rare, stupid fish; I trolled trade to kill the boredom. I spammed my professions, and people would whisper me, mostly asking for me to enchant their gear. So I told them to come find me in Ironforge. I actually managed to attract 1 customer.

    The process took hours of fishing. But I still have that fish in my new 36 slot fishing bag. I keep him next to my Old Crafty. I'm sure many of the people that will read this are proud owners of both.

  25. Jennifer (Elantra) on Drak' Tharon, January 2011:

    Caught Mr. Pinchy on my second try in a Highland Mixed School thanks to El's guide of where to find them... with my lucky Mage char. Elantra. Then while bragging to my hubby that she caught him on the second try I clicked on him to get my wishes and the very first wish was the pet Crawdad, I was absolutely thrilled and the hubby was super super jealous as it took him a ton of trys to actually get Mr. Pinchy then he did not get the pet till the third wish......so it was pretty special to me and very memorable.

  26. Erik (Smartypants) on Blackwing Lair, January 2011:

    My most prized moment fishing....well it was winning the STV fishing tourney... for a 2nd time! I have to say i was very surprised that i was the first one to fish up 40 tasyfish as i was only there helping a friend and got carried away fishing myself. I have to say that friend was a little mad for a bit but he got over it. In fact a few weeks later both my friend and I were doing some fishing for the Northrend derby...and i won that too!

    And i would like to thank El for this site and the helpful information about all the tournaments, items and achievements for fishing. This has helped my a lot. I am sooo close to getting the Limnologist and Oceanographer completed...just need a few bloated.

    So ty El, ty all!

  27. LucidTaint, January 2011:

    My most prized catch would have to be all of the Zulian Mudskunks I fished up back in the day. Fishing wasn't always a very popular skill. So, long before there were any achievements or mounts involved, I was part of a raiding guild on a PvP server. And I happened to be the only person in my guild who had actually leveled fishing. So I was the go-to-girl for all of the Zulian Mudskunks that were needed to summon Gahz'ranka, the fish boss in Zul'Gurub.

    So sad that they removed that raid, too. I hadn't gotten my raptor or tiger mounts yet, and I'd been farming them with my BF ever since we were strong enough to duo the instance. Ah well. :(

  28. Snafu, January 2011:

    I'm going to have to echo the post of a previous poster, and go with Ironjaw...and pretty much for the same reasons. Thousands of casts early in my fishing career, and I stuck with it until he dropped. He was my first real grind, and taught me the patience for all that's followed.

  29. Veskaphen, January 2011:

    Alright. This is going to be interesting to explain....

    My favorite "catch" was the day I tackled the Mighty Dwar-Fish.

    Allow me to explain. Back in the days of "vanilla" WoW, when one had moved past the days of Scholmance and Stratholme and waited between the days of raiding Molten Core, Blackwing Lair and Zul' Gurub, coming up with new and interesting ways to entertain oneself was very important. I had taken up fishing pretty early in my career, catching many rare fish and winning the STV tournament twice on my undead warlock, Fizalisorn.

    Fizalisorn --> http://oi52.tinypic.com/r7t09c.jpg

    Once the fish dried up, I started to use my fishing pole to take on other creatures: Sharks, crawlers, crocolisks and moving onward to bears, skeletons, pretty much anything I could whack with my fishing rod. This eventually lead to charging head on to the alliance, plaguing them with afflictions and beating them down with my fishing pole until they moved no longer.

    Attacking the Marshal --> http://oi52.tinypic.com/311ncra.jpg

    Then it came to me! The greatest fish, that eluded all great fisherman of the Horde. The MIGHTY Dwar-Fish, King Magni Bronzebeard. I tried to coax others to assist me in this grand feat, but everything thought I had gone mad. So, I pulled out my set of twill cloth from the bank, pulled out my arcanite fishing rod and road my way defiantly into Ironforge. There was much resistance, but even more confusion. Finally, I had reached his center chamber. There he stood, by his throne. Quickly I pulled the rod off my back holster and charged inward. He and his guards met me center. I swung the rod and the eternium line flew into his mouth as he let out a mighty shout, and the hook pulled him lurching him back. He was mine! Only for a moment, until he winded back with his men and their hammers struck me like I was a glass bell. My bones fell to pieces, but success was mine that day. Here is the shot to prove my catch, be it brief.

    Success! --> http://oi54.tinypic.com/73i8ao.jpg

    Time went on, and I moved on as well to a new server with friends. The alliance I once fought were now my friends, but my love of fishing moved on with me. Now his mantle is carried by my Bloodsail Mage Veskaphen, whom hunts elusive sea cows, inconspicuously donning his frenzy fish transformation. Tauren druids, beware!

  30. Blon, January 2011:

    For the longest time my most prized catch was Old Ironjaw. It took me 3,971 casts (Yes, I kept track) to catch him... as a Horde member. :P

    However, for a long time I had tried and tried to win either of the fishing tournaments without success, but on this Christmas morning I managed to win the Kalu'ak Fishing Derby. My family had just gotten finished opening presents and I hurried to Dalaran, set my hearthstone, and flew to Shalozar Basin. I'm used to seeing the derby end in 6-8 minutes usually, so at 15 minutes I was amazed that it hadn't ended. At that point I saw the shark pop up, looted it, hearthed, and got there first. :) My family thought I was crazy, but that was my favorite Christmas gift of the day. :D

  31. Pizin, January 2011:

    I am most proud for my catch of Mr. Pinchy. Long waitng for catching fish is followed by thrill if it give you lousy potion or amaazing pet.

  32. Foulacy, January 2011:

    Mr pinchy was the most hardest fish i could've gotten.

    I had spent countless nights and days trying to fish him up and I never could have.

    After finally Spending over 330 hours of fishing ,I had managed to finally fish him up.

    In the 330 hours of fishing, It had took me about Quite well over 5,000 casts and It was a pain in my toosh just to get him.

    I dont have any screenshots or anything but this is the best i could say.

    P.S Thanks WoWTcgloot.com for giving this code to El's Site. =)

    Cheers,
    Foulacy.

  33. Ruana, January 2011:

    Since I still don't have the Salty title, the Sea Turtle, or the rare fish, I'm going to have to go with getting Mr. Pinchy back in the day!

    I remember spending hours getting to 375, and then immediately dashing off to begin fishing out of the Highland pools! And the same day, I caught my first Mr. Pinchy! Sadly, it wasn't until the 2nd Pinchy catch that I got my beloved pet, but that was still the one I am most proud of today.

    Until I get that gorram turtle....

  34. Sapphiria, January 2011:

    My most prized catch happens to be the First Darkshore Grouper I caught. When I first started playing in Vanilla, I needed six of those fish. I tried and tried to fish and I just could not get it, I finally gave up.
    A guild member gave me the fish to finish the quest and inside I regretted it. I really enjoy fishing both in life and in some games. So not eing able to fish in WoW bothered me.
    Before BC came out I kept hearing about fishing changes, and a pet. It was until I saw Mr. Pinchy myself that I fell in love with him.
    SO I dedicated all my time to learning how to fish. I remember finally clicking on the cogwheel at the right time, and by my fifth catch in darnassus I was feeling good. Before I knew it I was already fifity points in fishing! I was hooked.
    I went to Auberdine and I fished up my DARKSHORE Grouper! Smiling and proud I kept Fishing and made sure I caught enough for all my bank alts. While fishing there i came across the fishing quest for gaffer jacks? I dont remeber the name well, but I was SO happy to be able to do it.
    From that point on I did not bother leveling in Outland till I was level three hundred fishing. I am still in love with Fishing and I am so proud of this accomplishment. I will never forget the member who gave me the fish, Lilpaws (where ever you are) and I will alwasy have the greatest memories fishing in Auberdine.
    You can still find a Darkshore grouper in my Bank along with some other Fish I cannot bare to throw out.

  35. Glen Branley, January 2011:

    My most memorable catch would be that of Ol' Ironjaw.
    After spending several ours with my Tauren hunter lvl 42 at the time, I slowly corpse dragged my corpse through the stone halls of Ironforge till I came to Ironjaws lair.
    I spent several days fishing there, one of then spent alongside a friendly worgen who also liked to fish, I finally hooked him.
    However jumping up and down with joy I did manage to pull the gaurds nearby and they swiftly ended the celebration...owell...hope this story was fun :D

    Later: My first fish, thats it, my first fish

  36. Nor, January 2011:

    As I have always been a bug-scale badlucker in the game, (for example running sethekk halls cca 320 times with never seeing the Anzu mount drop) the hardest catch for me was Old Crafty for sure. I have spent almost 2 weeks in Orgrimmar as an alliance character, fishing everyday for 3-5 hours, then one day, I suddenly got it on my first cast that day..

  37. Kylkiluut, January 2011:

    The catch that I am most proud of hasn't happened yet, but when it does, I will know undoubtedly that it is 'The One.'

    I have a level 80 alt named "Saalty" on The Venture Company that I created several years ago that I intended to be the first character I had that would earn the "Salty" title. I started out strong, gathering quests and fulfilling achievements at a record pace. As I got up in level, I started some the harder ones that required (including "The Deadliest Catch" which is no longer necessary, and "The Lurker Above" which took several tries).

    Then I got high enough to start fishing for coins in Dal (oh, what a pain! but what a joy to catch that last gold coid!), and slowly but surely, I met all the requirements save two:

    "The Master Angler of Azeroth" which I am saving to be the final achievement, which will be a glorious end to this journey,

    and

    the "One That Didn't Get Away" which has turned out to as elusive as a level 85 Subtlety Night Elf Rogue hiding in the Darkest Dungeon of Azeroth. I've fished pools of herring in Grizzly Hills, I've fished ponds and lakes in Elwynn, I've fished all nooks and crannies in every zone, yet the One That Didn't Get Away keeps getting away. Nary a glimpse, nor a glimmer, nor even a small tug on my line have I seen or felt. Saalty has truly been on this quest for years, and many times has thought Dark Thoughts about abandoning the quest, abandoning his favorite Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole, and even perhaps abandoning Azeroth altogether.

    But no... he picks himself up, marches to another zone, looks for another pool, and throws his line in once again, taking comfort in the familiar splash that tells him his cast has been true and his lure ready.

    And when that day happens, and that day must happen, he will hook into that never before seen Rare Fish, stuff it into his fishing bag, and announce to the world that the Deed Has Been Done! And yes, friends, there is no doubt, that that will be my proudest catch.

  38. jdom418, January 2011:

    My Darkwood fishing pole. I don't use it, but I fished on the docks of Lakeshire for 4328 casts until I reeled in the elusive pole. It was a win-win situation, because I also caught my bloated catfish the same day I reeled in the Darkwood.

  39. GormanGhaste, January 2011:

    My favorite catch would have to be the Giant Sewer Rat. When Wrath first came out, I had a mage port my 70 to Dalaran, and while everyone else was in the starting zones, I alternated fishing and working on Higher Learning. I love to collect pets, and this one has a great personality!

  40. Izziee, January 2011:

    While this isn't a special fish, it was always special to me. That would be the Raw Nightfin Snapper. One thing that has always disappointed me with this game is that they never followed up bringing in seasonal or day/night fish.

    I use to grab myself a cup of coffee, some munchies and relax in a dark room as I fished in the most beautiful (and my favourite zone) Feralas. I'd sit below the bridge, listening to the gorgeous night elf style twinkles with a nice bight moon shining between the trees. I would sit up until the sun came up (and could no longer fish for these and up popped the sunscale salmon).

    I have many things from fishing, including the sea turtle, but alas, nothing brings back memories as these relaxing nights.

  41. Migbert, January 2011:

    The turtle mount was the catch I had sought after for months. I'm not the only angler who probably spent months waiting for that random drop. I had been supplying fish feast for my guild for over 3 months and had all but given up. Then while doing the Ghostfish Daily I was in Shalozar with less than a minute on server reset and wasn't even paying attention because I had autoloot enabled, when the achievement Turtles All the Way Down appeared on the screen. I wasn't able to equip it until the server came backup - that was the longest 30 min of my WoW life, it felt longer than the 3 months I had been trying to catch it.

  42. wizduder, January 2011:

    Well i remember when i won the Stranglethorn contest before the achievement system was introduced.

    It was a sunday afternoon i went down to STV to participate in the contest and i did my usual /who to see how many alliance id be facing in today's contest, there were 2 alliance there and roughly 5 horde. so im wating at the southern part of the eastern coast for the contest and to my surprise 3 pools spawn around me. i fish those up and move along to find that mounting up is just a waste of time time for me and the pools were just too perfect. soon enough i hearthed with the 40 fish and to my surprise i had a horde attacking me after i turned it in. so i loled and went on my merry way.
    and thats my story

  43. Datruck, January 2011:

    Back in classic WoW when my highest level character was a 49 mage I took a break from leveling to PvP in the new battlegrounds. To get myself geared I would spend every night fishing the coast of Tanaris for Stonescale Eel and junk nodes to get gold.

    I'd have to say that my proudest catch occurred there. Yes, that last junk node where I fished up a few bolts of silk cloth that gave me enough gold to afford a +30 spell power enchant to my staff. I think it cost me around 500g.

    People would ask me how a level 49 could afford such an enchant. What did I farm with my lvl 60. When I would tell them that I had no lvl 60 and got all the gold from fishing and selling catches most of them thought I was joking or acted like I was crazy.

    And all those poor Horde who would see me fishing there, some of them even lvl 60s, thinking they could take advantage of the dumb mage fishing got a big surprise when I would equip my staff and 2 shot them.

    Those really were the days...

  44. A ninja, January 2011:

    I am most proud of the 17-pound catfish i got in western plague lands....why because it got me to 275 and that took forever

  45. donquixote235, January 2011:

    When Blizzard introduced achievements to the game (just before WotLK rolled out) I decided to try to get all the fishing achievements on my blood elf rogue - after all, he was already maxed out on fishing (at that time, the max skill was 375), so why not? After all it was something to do while waiting on LK.

    After I knocked out some of the easier achievements, I decided to tackle Old Ironjaw. So I stealthed into Stormwind, picked up The Fishing Diplomat, and continued to the Deeprun Tram... and trust me, I was stealthed the entire time. I even ran the length of the tram to avoid being caught unawares.

    Once I entered Ironforge via the back door, I was surprised by two lvl 80 guards, who made quick work of my lvl 70 character. So I corpse-ran back, rezzed a little deeper into Ironforge, and died again. I did this probably 4-5 times before I made it to the small grotto in the back of the city.

    Once there I tried to find the most low-profile angle from which to fish - that is, I wanted to pick a spot that was least likely to be seen by an Alliance toon who happened to be running by. I also used the /sleep trick to fish from a lying position, and I got to work.

    I did get attacked a few times, but at no point did I ever try to fight back... instead, I would Vanish and run a few feet away until they gave up and left. To me, it was a code of honor... after all I was in their city, trying to catch their fish, and it would be quite rude to fight them. After a while I amassed a small crowd of people in my area, watching me fish. The occasional toon would try to attack me, just to have the other characters /boo him and /cheer me - they were actually rooting for me!

    After about an hour I heard the achievement ding and saw the Old Ironjaw achievement pop up on my screen. The crowd around me /cheered at my achievement, and I /bowed and /thanked them before porting back to Orgrimmar.

  46. Cye, January 2011:

    I am most proud of fishing up the Steelscale Crushfish for the "One That Didn't Get Away" achievement.

    It was the last piece of the puzzle in gaining the Salty title, and I completed it a few hours after FINALLY winning the Kaluak Derby.

    There was much crazy person yelling and dancing. :D

  47. Lightbringer of Wildhammer US, January 2011:

    My story goes back to December 7th 2010. I had just returned from the store and I was waiting to start hacking away at Realm First! Illustrious Angler. Cataclysm went live and I started fishing right next to the Stormwind fishing trainer after training. I quickly noticed another fellow angler next to me going for the Realm First. I told him that I intended to get realm first and that there was nothing in the world that would stop me from getting it. He was racing me until I was at about 478 skill. He knew that I was slightly ahead of him so he enlisted the help of a Death Knight to mount on a mammoth and stand on my lure so that I would be unable to catch anymore fish. I was very angry about this but decided to move to the Stormwind harbor and continue fishing. The death knight lost sight of me and I was able to get another two or three levels in peace. He then found me again and chased me all the way to Westfall. In Westfall I was able to hide under a bridge and continue fishing without having to worry about the Death Knight because he was really dumb. My heart was racing and I was very angry that he did this to me. I kept fishing because I thought I still had a chance to win. About 400 fish later I was at 524 fishing and no one had gotten Realm First yet. My heart was beating very fast at this point and I thought to myself I don't know what I will do if I lose at this point. About seven seconds later I caught a longjaw Mud snapper for my 525 skillpoint and Realm First! Illustrious Angler. I will never forget this moment and I will never forget the Longjaw mud snapper that won me my very first realm first achievement. This will always remind me to never give up no matter what.

  48. Teddy, January 2011:

    I have been playing wow for a long time now, and my proudest catch goes back to wow original. When I was level 6 warrior, I met a level 42 warrior on a mount! I was so amazed, and i became friend with him.
    Then when I was about level 40, he was level 60 and he asked me if I wanted to help him fish something for his armor, I had totally no idea how fishing had anything to do with his armor, but I came, since it was a good opportunity to raise my fishing skills, as well as my friendship. I joined him next to Booty Bay, on the island with the huge gorilla.
    The level 60 warrior told me I had to look for Stonescale eel, and gave me some lures, at this time I did not know yet what kind of fish I could fish, so I started fishing and prayed to get a Stonescale eel.

    Your fishing skill increased to 150
    Your fishing skill increased to 180
    Your fishing skill increased to 225
    I stayed fishing with the lure, and at wow classic you could not increase your fishing level when you could not catch a fish, either you catch one or you fail, so let me tell you this took a long time. At 225 I was capped and I had to do Nat paggle quest to go beyond, but I saved that for later (and it took me some months to figure it out).
    So I finally caught some Stonescale eel, when I had about 10 I was so proud and i traded my friend and told him: " Look I caught a lot for you, hope it will help you!" and that's when he told me he needed about a 100 more for his whole armor!!!
    He was actually doing the quest to upgrade the t0 to t0.5 i think you can also call it dungeon 1 to dungeon 2 now.

  49. anathema, January 2011:

    Mine was the Walleye I caught yesterday because subsequently after catching it I found the Weather-Beaten fishing hat, found the rare fish to get the +5 fishing boots and won the STV contest.

  50. Mattie Pye, January 2011:

    Went Serpentshrine Cavern for the first time and was egged on by friends to fish this certain spot...the results were predictable but unexpectable at the time..and very messy...

  51. Bodewhin, January 2011:

    Not to be redundant, but Mr. Pinchy is by far the catch I'm most proud of!

    Right when I started my main toon, I idly researched vanity pets and the magical crawdad immediately caught my eye - I had to have him! From day 1, Mr. Pinchy was my goal.

    So, I'm an extremely casual player. I've played WoW for 5 years and my main is still level 70 (lol)! Thus, it was only recently that I was able to acquire a flying mount and access to the Highland Mixed Schools.

    Compared to some of my other catches, I caught Mr. Pinchy fairly quickly (once I was able to really fish for him) and was lucky enough to get the pet on my first wish. But, I felt like I had been trying to catch him for 5 years! :)

    Winning the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza comes in as a close second - I won on my first try! I love the Arcanite Fishing Pole's new look :D

  52. Gwoh, January 2011:

    My most memorable catch would have to be on December 21st of 2008, It was winning the Stranglethorn Extravaganza. My fishing level was not at max, it was probably around 250~(I used bobbers). I totally just jumped at it hoping i could win. It was the most intense 19~ minutes of my wow career lol. On the way to turn in I saw an alliance running for the NPC as well, but because I was a Mage Blink made it all happen, and on the day of my Birthday! One of the best wow moments.

  53. Kayiena, January 2011:

    My all time favorite catch was actually a series of them, the day I won the Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Extravaganza. First try ever, and I won! Memorable, to say the least.

  54. MarkG, January 2011:

    My favorite catch was definitely Old Crafty. I caught him towards the end of BC on my mage. I spent 15 hours or more stuck in the back of the waterfall in Ogrimmar after 2500+ casts. I was killed many times on the PvP server I was on, and nothing was like the elation after finally reeling him in. I love WoW fishing, and this was my best memory of it. Perseverance!

  55. Micha, January 2011:

    I think I might be a bit of an oddball, but I've always enjoyed having one foot each in two worlds. The two things I enjoy in WoW (and spend the most time on): fishing and PvP. I don't think I'm the best at either one, but I'd like to think I hold my own. PvP is probably what I like better, if my stats are any indicator. I've got 46k HK's and only 26k fish and other things caught. I know the latter number is actually rather small compared to what a lot of the veteran fishermen on this site have.

    I actually think that combination makes perfect sense, at least by my reckoning. I didn't grow up on Everquest or other cooperative titles. Once I really got into games, RTS's and FPS's were my favorite genres. I like competition, and I don't shy away from a hard fight, even if it's a losing proposition. But I do like balance in my life, and fishing is an activity which relies on simple patience, determination, and perspective. For me, PvP is the challenge, and fishing is what you do on the downtime to keep your nerves calm.

    So when I heard about Old Ironjaw during BC, I wasn't thinking, "Damn, this will be rough." I was actually pretty psyched. The achievement didn't even exist then, but it was too tempting to pass up. A rare fish to catch, with an all-you-can-eat buffet of Alliance to kill? Awesome. Long story short, I did get him. Took over 1000 catches in periods of a few hours over 3 days, and I even got the 1 Ring along the way, but I got him.

    The fun is in the details, of course. I was around here back then, too, so if you search far enough back, you might find my post about this whole deal.

    Did I die? Hell yeah. I didn't go down easy, though. I was using Aspect of the Beast (old ability to avoid being tracked), and I was /sleeping to avoid easy visual detection, but I was wearing my gear and did fight back when it came down to it. Final kill count? As I recall, I died seven times. My own personal kills? I got 17 Alliance kills, 10 of which were level 70's (the cap then). I think I came out on top, all things considered. The really fun part was that 7 of them were an old friend of mine.

    See, the fun part about world PvP is the rivalries. It's about vowing revenge against a guy on your server for all the times he has killed you or tried to, but still respecting his guts and determination. For me during BC, one such guy was Lorien. I would kill him almost every time he jumped me, but he never even hesitated if he saw me flagged. If I saw a warlock coming out of the cuts, it was often him, and that made it a lot of fun.

    So yeah. We fought in the Tram, in the Cavern, and all over the place in IF, but at the end of the ordeal, I got my fish, and we both walked away to kill each other again another day. Wouldn't have had it any other way. Remains one of my most fun WoW experiences.

  56. Adys, January 2011:

    I guess for me it has to be Old Ironjaw. Not for the catch itself, but because the same day I caught the 15 Pound Mud Snapper and lost it because my inventory was full, as well as another Old Ironjaw a few hours before, but didn't pay attention to the Bind on Pickup message box.

    I'm really glad they got rid of that, but I was so annoyed that day. I kept going for hours trying to get that Old Ironjaw again, and finally did. Phew.

  57. Spenster, January 2011:

    I have spent considerable time trying to fish up the sea turtle. I would go on fishing sessions every day before raids in order to eventually catch it. Never caught it during WotLK, but several days ago I was fishing in Tol Barad for ship wreckage and fathom deep eels, and I was there standing on the water fishing (kinda on auto pilot mode) not thinking about what I was catching and suddenly a big achievement pops up and i get a glimpse of a sea turtle going to my bags. I was totally surprised because I didn't think that the turtle could be caught in cata area. I did a lil happy dance and I told my wife and we "raised the roof" it was funny. Thanks : )

  58. Celanas, January 2011:

    It was definetly 11 pound catfish, my friend kept saying that those rare fishes are definetly rare. I said him that I will catch one sooner than you can think of (I was kinda confident about my fishing luck) I fished one for 4 hours in a row and didnt get any special fishes, until I got one. After that I said to my friend that I got that in 10minutes :)

  59. Feldil, January 2011:

    I would like to start out by saying I love this site, it made me love fishing.

    My proudest catch isn't any of the rare fish, but the one fish I caught in Ogrimmar. I'm not the PvP type, but I wanted the Diplomat achievement. None of the horde killed me, but the grunts made it hard. It seemed everywhere I went they were there to kill me. The graveyard was so far away and the ghost can't fly there. It was upsetting to say the least. I finally found a spot they wouldn't get me, behind the Horde AH. I caught my fish and the Horde started to notice me so I left. I have to go back someday and catch Old Crafty. Maybe I can do it while people are raiding the main cities.

  60. Turokai, January 2011:

    I would have to say my most favorite catch of all was when i fished up the find fish book at skill level 23. I had never really cared for fishing and never gotten it above or near skill level 50, but for some reason i just got bored and went fishing. I believe i was somewhere in redridge during WoTLK and it popped up outta nowhere. After that catch ive had a pretty easy time leveling fishing and am now working on grand master. i'm kinda slow leveling this professions as my patience is slim. However, that is officially my most favored catch of all.
    ~~~Turokai~~~
  61. Samuels, January 2011:
    Several months before Wrath launched, I had finally paid for flying, and so set off to fish up Mr. Pinchy. I had leveled fishing to max long before any other profession when I heard about him. Took me a little over 4 days of fishing in Highland pools before I found him. After a moment of celebration, I eagerly made my first wish and got my Magical Crawdad on the first try. It will forever be my proudest fishing moment.
  62. Magealbert, January 2011:
    I read about the sea turtle mount and a lot of people catching it in uldam so I went there and the fist cast into blackbelly fish pool I got it
  63. Cryobaby of Deathwing EU, January 2011:
    Same as most people here - Mr Pinchy. I spent a good 4 days farming this bad boy, which I guess is unlucky to some and lucky to more. So anyway, after doing sweeps of the pools day after day I'm browsing through one of the numerous comments either on here or on one of the wowhead pages, about a song someone came up with while trying to catch him. So later on I was that bored I decided to sing a Mr Pinchy song of my own and lo and behold and that very SAME cast, I caught Mr. Pinchy.
  64. Merly, January 2011:
    Simply put a Tastyfish.
    Not just any ole tasty fish the 40th one on the day I I first won the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza.
    Back in the day it was a fiercly fought contest and after losing out twice, once because of bad hearthstone placement and once being a meer fraction of a second behind the first person I set out with determination to win this contest, to the point all my guild knew about it, all of them wished me luck and off I went rod in hand......
    Pool after pool I was fishing them up and watching the total rise until there it was.... number 40 I jammed my finger down on my hearthstone and ran as fast as my little gnome legs would carry me, heart pounding (litterally it was) practically throwing myself at Riggle Bassbait and finally winning the tournament.
    It had taken months, of being home in STV at the right time plotting the perfect "route" having all the enchants and lures that I could cary but most of all dedication to win and win I did..... happy days indeed......
  65. Asganin- Lethon, January 2011:
    My most prized catch has to be the giant sewer rat. I was up all night one night bored stupid so i said to myself "I want the sea turtle mount". After saying that I set out on an adventure to get that sea turtle mount and in doing so (after about 5 and a half hours of straight fishing) I got it and then went to make fish feasts with the fish i had cought (about 6 stacks). Was about to crash out and had 6 mins left on my lure so i decided not to waste it and go to the sewers of dalaran. Figured what the hell its been months ive tried for this rat and i still wont get it but may as well give it a go. Was chatting in guild on my last cast of my lure (roughly 24 seconds left) telling them i was going to bed for the night when I clicked the bobber and read in guild chat that i got an achievment. Heh I about shit myself when I noticed i got the sewer rat. Heh after months of farming for it I get the sewer rat on a "What the hell" notion. So that was my amazing fishing day after about 5 and a half hours I walked away with my sea turtle and my sewer rat all on a whim :P HAPPY DAY INDEED!
  66. Dinkum, January 2011:
    Interestingly, the fish I am most proud of catching is the one that has no specific effort required to get one: The Goldenscale Vendorfish.
    Up until this point in my fishing career, fish were to be used for amusing off-hand equipment, cooking, or brewed into nasty concoctions with alchemy. Once I obtained the Goldenscale Vendorfish I understood that fishing was its own reward. No need to slap that baby on the fire, no use shoving it into a tiny flask, THIS is the fish that everybody wanted the second I plucked it from the depths.
    I happily sold it to the first dwarf I came across, and he was mighty happy to have it.
  67. Kreznor, January 2011:
    The most prized catch ever must of course be The Magical Crawdad form Mr. Pinchy's magical box. I am a big fan of crustaceans, and am studying to be a marine biologist. However my most favorite of creatures is in fact the lobster. I tried for such a long time to catch the 22 lbs lobster in Azshara but was unable to. I know Crawdads and lobsters are not the same but are relatively similar, and when I caught the Magical Box and opened it to reveal that Crawdad, I was overjoyed. I happen to know the word "lobster" in 18 different languages and love the creature dearly. When doing Icecrown Citadel raids or others, I would always say to my raid group "Rub the lobster for good luck!" and then proceed to rub my coveted Magical Crawdad. It has since become a symbol of good luck, good fortune and the awesomeness of Kreznor and his love for lobsters. =D
  68. Atropa, January 2011:
    My most memorable catch would have to be the 15 pound mud snapper. The sense of relief and accomplishment is indescribable. There were times that I never thought I would get that achievement done, I was about ready to give up. When it happened I thought I was dreaming, I even pinched myself just to make sure it was real.
    The road to salty was a long and arduous one, and that moment made up for all the failed fishing competitions, and the thousands upon thousands of fish who died to get me that title.
  69. AnchorJG, January 2011:
    There have been several catches that stand out. Winning the fishing tourneys, the Dark Herring, even Mr. Pinchy. Even from way back in Classic WoW, when I was only only one who bothered to level fishing enough to summon Gahz'ranka would probably count. But I think the catch that I am most proud of is The Lurker Below.
    I'm in a small 10-man raiding guild which meant for the vast majority of Burning Crusade, we raided Karazhan and then Zul'Aman. It was repetative but we did our best and was the best 10man guild on the server. We were content, but looked at other guilds went to newer dungeons in better armor and outgeared our content cheesing rewards we struggled hard for. But our officers came to us one day and asked if we'd like to join forces with another guild to raid the 25s. They had more people than us, but a worse record and definitely a more casual attitude than we brought to our raids. I'm not sure how the initial contact was made but on the server we were on our faction was in the vast minority so pickings were slim for alliances.
    To start with, we tested ourselves on Gruul. And suceeding that, Magtheridon. Then came the night we were to head into Serpent Shrine caverns. This was it, this was our real entry into the big time. Real trash packs, complex fight coreography, this was going to be the true test of our guild alliance.
    When it came time that we were standing around that ring of refuse, I got out my pole and cast in, along with at least half a dozen other anglers. Who can say whose bobber finally brought the beast to the surface? Of course it was mine, (no doubt the other fishermen think it was them).
    Ultimately, the alliance fell apart, we ended up moving to a more balanced server, and never did-as a guild-see the 25-man raiding experience. But that i did my part, during our brief brush at what was then the only legitimate raiding, makes the Lurker Below my proudest catch.
  70. Drozin, January 2011:
    I was just a boy at the time, a boy with a dream.
    I had Old Crafty in my bags and I thought, "well I'll give this fishing thing a go." I had no Idea the adventures that lay ahead. With the mere fishing level of 140 and less than a few hours of fishing experience I set out for the sea turtle.
    I packed my bags and left Dalaran waving goodbye to friends and family, I didn't know how long I would be out in the wilderness. I started right below Dalaran and fished up the river, went down and around Borean Tundra and found myself at the rivers heart. "What a beautiful place" I remember thinking. The scenery and crystal clear water was perfect for fishing. I spent hours searching for that turtle in Sholazar Basin, but it just wasn't happening. Eventually I decided I needed a change of scenery.
    I left Sholazar in hopes of bigger and better things, I arrived at dragon blight with my hopes dampened but I couldn't turn back now. I fished along the coast, stopped and chatted with the locals at Moa'ki harbor for awhile but the turtle was still on my mind. I finally left their small village and they wished me the best of luck. I fished the icy waters of the Frozen seas all the way down through Howling Fjord. I made my way back through the river systems. I found myself back where I started, at the river below dalaran.
    I wasn't sure If I would ever find this turtle. The hours spent fishing were adding up and I was sure I took on something over my head. In a last effort I went back to Sholazar and the River's Heart.
    I had my eyes set on the first pool, but nothing. I began casting into the second pool, nothing. I walked up to the third pool, and something was different about it. I could feel the sea turtle near. I made a few poor casts with nothing coming up, but then I focused. I took my pole back and casted it as far as it could go. It was a beautiful cast, the best I had ever seen. The bobber sat still until the end of the cast, and then it went. I pulled back quickly, but what I could only dream was the sea turtle fought back ferociously. I pulled with all my might and nothing seemed to be happening. We were at a standstill. I eventually won him over with my endurance and out popped a sea turtle. I cheered and screamed and instantly mounted him. I road him around and showed him off. It was my greatest catch.
  71. Jerri, January 2011:
    I think this is a lot of fun and just had to add mine. The best catch I have ever done was for the Kalu'ak fishing derby. I was late in starting fishing and was really lost until I heard about Els fishing guild was able to learn a lot and finally get my fishing to a much better skill. I love fishing so relaxing and really interesting that it drove me to enter my first derby. I was so excited and was hoping to at least see the shark. Anyway the derby started and a ton of us where off trying to find the shark I decided to go to Grizzly Hills and try my luck there. First pool nothing, but didnt give up. Second pool no shark at all. I started to fly up one of the water falls and saw a bear fishing near my next pool. so I sat next to the big cutie and on the second cast....I GOT IT =D. I couldnt beleive it I actually just stood there for like a whole min. My luck has always been awful normally takes me twice as long as anyone else to get something cause its so bad but there it was the thing to win the fishing derby. Finally I snaped out of it and moved as fast as I could to turn it in. Again for some odd reason my luck held out just a little longer and was able to turn in the shark first to win the derby. This catch is truely special to me not only was I able to get the fish needed for it but I got to win my first ever fishing derby. I dont think I can find anything else to match how much fun and exciting that first fishing derby was to me.
  72. Plingx, January 2011:
    Though not a veteran fisher such as most of you above, my favorite is the 19 pound catfish. I sure am proud of that monster, and it just straight reminds me of my . . . . .
  73. James Torres (Silentrain), January 2011:
    The most exciting catch ive had might sem very stupid to most I have only been playing WOW for about a lil under 2 years i never really cared for fishing to much even though i maxed my fishing out for teh Prof achieve i never really fished untill i heard about teh FIshing turtle mount lol
    but i still go bacc to norterend for 4 hours a day to fish for my mount hopefully one day soon
    until then illl keeep workin on my fishing achieves until i get it :)
  74. vendella, January 2011:
    I have to say the best catch I have ever gotten on any of my 10 toons would have to be the crawler pet. I do like the pets that you can get from fishing I was sad to not be able to catch the turtle mount as I have been trying to get that on ghostlands server since the launch of LK.
    out of everything that someone can obtain by fishing I have everything on my rogue except the chair and the turtle. thread is by far the hardest thing I have gotten to fish aside Mr. Pinchy. a very nice pet in itself.
  75. Rakhman, January 2011:
    My best catch is definitely Old Ironjaw in Ironforge. Given I am Horde, this required some cunning and trickery to achieve.
    I waited until the Brew of the Month club was giving out the Aromatic Honey Brew in March. Then I rode into Ironforge and survived long enough to climb up onto a window near the throne room. The brew sent me running in fear from bees, right through the window and into Old Ironforge. After navigating the steps, I fell down onto a platform near the lava, from which there was no escape but my Hearthstone.
    3 hours of fishing later, I had Old Ironjaw and the only Alliance who ever saw me was some mage who was also exploring Old Ironforge.
  76. Valkien, January 2011:
    I am an avid fisher(wo)man and a fan of this website. In pursuit of this affection/affliction I have fished all of Azeroth and the Outlands and have obtained the "Salty" title. Along the way I have earned my "Hook of the Master Angler" and several of my most prized pets (including Mr. Pinchy).
    But nothing has made me more proud than being part of my guild's mammoth 4 hour fishing marathon to complete the "That's a Lot of Bait" achievement.
    For those unfamiliar, this is accompolished by fishing 10000 fish from pools. So, my proudest catch would be the simple Bloodtooth Frenzy that was the last fish to complete our achievement. There was much rejoicing on a terrific group effort on a LONG Saturday afternoon.
    To all the fishermen of on Argent Dawn, I tip my fishing hat to your mighty effort!
    ~Valkien (Caliie)
  77. Doul, January 2011:
    My greatest catch wasn't so much a specific catch as winning the Stranglethorn tournement back before Wrath, soon after the achievements came out, and getting the Salty title at the same time.
    Im on a medium pop normal server, and there is a pretty big group of fishermen. The Stranglethorn shores where teeming with people as early as one hour before the tournament. I rode up the whole coast on the west side, starting below the troll complex all the way to Booty Bay not finding any free spot.
    2 mins before the start, I decide to check the coast of the little island northwest of Booty Bay and there was noone there.
    I won the contest by staying on that island and getting the pools as soon as they spawned.
    Moving around Vash'ir as a fish due to the "Hook of the Master Angler" is awesome.
    - Doul
  78. Silentskorn, January 2011:
    My greatest catch by far, was getting the Sea Turtle mount at lvl 20!
    I never knew the sea turlte existed until I found El's Extreme Anglin website.
    I came here looking for tips on how to lvl fishing faster, and instead I found a slew of rare items and treasures that I never knew existed in WOW.
    Anyway, I was only lvl 20 at the time but I decided to go for the turtle anyway.
    So I set out on my journey to Northrend! :D
    ...I was bruised, beaten, ganked, manhandled, possibly sexually assaulted along the way... just trying to find a safe fishing spot in northrend.
    Alas, I had found one!
    The place is called Winter's Breath Lake in Howling Fjord, there are no mobs around the lake at all and there are plenty of pools to fish from, so I did nothing but fish there for almost 2 straight weeks. I got to the point where I was about to give up, I had been up 22 straight hours of fishing and it was now 9am in the morning. My coffee had worn off and I was feeling extremely drowsy so I said to myself "ok, I'll fish 10 more then I'm going to bed." The 2nd cast after that I got the sea turtle!
    Now I am alot higher lvl than 20 but not to lvl 85 yet and of course I show off my Sea Turtle as much as I can. All the time, I get people asking how I got it at such a low lvl and when I tell them, most people are astonished :D
    Fun little things like this is what makes this game great IMO and I just hope that in a future patch (hopefully soon) blizz will add some more pets/mounts to cata.
  79. Tether, January 2011:
    40th Tastyfish
    We all have our stories regarding this wonderful/soul wrenching event. How many times had I come so close to using my hearthstone and becoming a new member of the Salty club? How many times have I seen that red announcement declaring for all to see anothers name being hailed as the winner? One week though, everything was different. I had camped out a nice little spot. No one else was around during the competition. It truly seemed as if the planets aligned because my casts were on fire. My heart was racing so badly at that 38th and 39th fish. I quickly ran to another fishing pool in time to see a member of the horde fishing out of it. Usually I pass on fishing where another is already invested, but this time I had to break that rule. I threw my line and a few precious seconds later I reeled in my 40th Tastyfish.
    That day, I finally saw my name being hailed as the winner of the greatest fishing challenge in all of Azeroth. I will never forget that feeling of excitement and relief. I have only ever felt that way on one other occasion in the game (non fishing related..."We Had it All Along, ") so catching that 40th Tastyfish was my proudest catch ever.
  80. solfeast, January 2011:
    Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat
    I know it isn’t a catch, but that hat is what got me most interested in fishing. It was around the time of Burning Crusades and dailies where the thing to do in most free time. The fishing daily was one of the easier ones and I had my eye on the lil’ gator pets from the bag rewarded.
    I had gotten a few gators and was chugging a long day after day to get their friends, when one day I open the bag and to my surprise there was a blue item sitting in there. I mouse over the new gear I had just revealed and to my surprise was one of the coolest pieces in game (to me anyway). A hat that had a use effect for a lure buff, allowing me to free up bag space!!!
    Because of this hat, I found the passion to fishing in WoW that my guildies all joke at me for. I went in search for all the gear and chants out there for fishing (and thanks to El’s awesome site here) got myself the best gear I can and love sporting it anytime I’m in Org or in a raid. Without that awesome hat I never would of gone after the Salty title and rare fish I have. :)
  81. Roger, January 2011:
    My greatest catch by far had to be catching the turtle mount. It is super rare and to have it drop for me was pretty amazing. The funny thing is I was actually trying to catch it, which never works in wow. It is against the law of the WOW universe.
    I got it off the dock in Hyal Ford.....love that place forever now! if you haven't been successful yet, keep trying and don't give up hope! I'm still trying to catch the pet firefly....one day.
  82. Vaugn, January 2011:
    The catch I am most proud of is: the next one.
    I'm an achievement nut. I've got over 12,000 achievement points at the moment and, until Catclysm, had every fishing achievement in the game. Now I'm working on The Limnologist and The Oceanographer.
    These are grueling achievements that may require 10,000 casts or more. After hours of fishing my mind is going numb, but I keep going. Why? Because it may be the next one that is the fish that I need. Whether Old Ironjaw, Mr. Crafty, a giant sewer rat, the final Dalaran gold coin, or the bloated mud snapper (my current nemesis), I know that sheer persistence will pay off in the end. All I have to do is catch the next fish... or the next one... or the next one...
  83. Axolotl, January 2011:
    It may be nothing special to most anglers, but fishing up a Tree Branch in Wintergrasp was pretty monumental for this Resto Druid. After getting my bark-covered butt beat up and abused in ICC, I was restocking my Fish Feast supply when I pulled this out of the icy pool. I didn't even know I was missing a limb! But it probably explained our recent wipes at the hands of Professor Putricide.
  84. Eric, January 2011:
    Old Crafty. It didn't seem to matter what time of day I was on, there was always a bored Horde there to corpse camp me. I guess that figures with a 2:5 Ally to Horde ratio. Feral druid pvp was at a low point so I was left with (usually unsuccessful) evasion tactics or logging on a Horde character and (usually unsuccessfully) begging my tormentor. About a week in I caught it, but didn't have the energy or heart to tackle Old Ironjaw, despite it being significantly easier. Perhaps after I get the Salty title I'll feel obliged.
  85. Devius, January 2011:
    Blacktip Shark. After months of loosing on both tournaments I finally caught it before someone had wan the tournament. At that point I have to say the I had all the other achievements for "Salty" done many months ago and I couldn't get to win the tournaments. So after I caught it I started sweating, had my heart pounding hard. Finally I got to return it and got my title and my boots of the bay. To this day I haven't competed again in the fishing derby. Just don't have the heart for it.
  86. Mittens, January 2011:
    I caught my favorite catch on a Sunday long ago, before TBC had been released.
    Mittens, my level 19 gnome rogue twink, had all the best gear.. but she was still missing the Lucky Fishing Hat. I fished every Sunday, trying my best to avoid crocolisks that aggro'd on me from across the zone. I never won the tournament, of course, but on one fine Sunday I finally caught Keefer's Angelfish! Mittens loved her stylish new fishing hat, and I loved the +15 stamina.
  87. violetta, January 2011:
    a few weeks ago I was doing some archaeology in Northrend, trying to get the Yogg Saron's Puzzle Box from the nerubian digsites. while I'm flying between some vrykul sites in Howling Fjord (had to get rid of them so some nerubian might spawn) I see the shout announcing the fishing contest, which I'd completely forgotten about. since I'd encountered no other players in the last couple of hours in Northrend I found the nearest lake and began fishing at the pools. about ten minutes later I caught the shark and, since my hearthstone was set to Stormwind (of course) and my wormhole generator was on cooldown, I flew off towards Dalaran hoping that nobody would beat me to it
    when I finally arrived in Dalaran I still hadn't seen any other players, handed the shark in and finally got my "Salty" title
  88. Airlinzoltan, January 2011:
    My proudest catch was my 40th tastyfish the time I won the Stranglethorn fishing contest. I see that others have made the same claim & I can understand why. I had caught the required # of fish the Sunday before, but by the time I hearthed back to Booty Bay someone else had made their turn in 1st. Winning the following weekend made up for the many losses I suffered before. Thanks El for all the good info you put together for us here.
  89. Faia, January 2011:
    This would have to be Old Crafty, back in TBC days.
    I'd snuck into Orgrimmar and hid behind the waterfall as I usually did to try and nab this little fellar. I'd been there a few hours already, with no luck yet. Things were starting to get busy and the chances of me being discovered and chain-ganked were rising, so I was just about to pack it in when I saw it. Finally!
    Unfortunately, at that time there existed a looting bug when you had auto-loot on. Which I didn't know about. So the loot window popped, and closed immediately without looting Ye Olde Crafty. I sat there stunned for a bit, cursing Lady Luck, and turned off auto-looting. I decided to stick around for a bit longer, and lo and behold, 7 catches later there it was again! It was like Lady Luck decided I'd had enough of a lesson. This time I got it, up went the achievement sparkle, which got me noticed and promptly ganked. But it was worth it.
    Old Crafty is still mounted on the wall of my vault in the Stormwind Bank. And no, it doesn't sing...
  90. Wolvergreen, January 2011:
    I wasn't sure if the contest was for a fishing achievement or something you actually caught. But either way, it's still a toss-up. So I'll just mention all 3 in this one entry.
    I'd have to say I'm most proud of the Lurker Above and Deadliest Catch achievements. I'm betting those are common favorites. But I'm proud of mine because I did both solo.
    I got the ZG one just before Cataclysm came out. So obviously that one wasn't difficult at level 80. But that doesn't change the fact that it's now a feat of strength. The serpentshrine one however, wasn't as easy. Having only been inside there a few times, I didn't exactly know if there was a short cut. So I ended up clearing all the trash up to (and just past) the first boss. I had just turned level 85 but most of my gear was still ICC epics. So yeah, that was a fun one.
    As for favorite catch? I'd have to say the companion for the 'I smell a rat' achievement. My reason is because I actually caught him in the fountain next to Marcia in Dalaran. I didn't think that was even possible, but that's where I got it.
  91. RubioSancho, January 2011:
    Goldenscale vendorfish! I was barely high enough lvl to survive in outland and the more exp guildies had not even heard of this fish because they had not taken an interest in fishing. It was the start of using fishing to finance all of my training and other needs. Since then I've put thousands into the guild bank and now get asked for fishing tips constantly.
  92. SteveAnderson, January 2011:
    Most proud of the getting the winning catch in the STV tournament. I needed just one more fish. Another contestant started fishing in my pool. I started was cursing at the screen.
    I got the fish and hit the HearthStone.. The other guy stopped fishing and said gratz before I disappeared.
    - Salty ßone
  93. Brian McKenzie, January 2011:
    I was fishing for the coins in the Dalaran fountain. I had all of the coins save Arthas' Gold Coin. I was furiously swearing in guild chat. So much that guild members would come by and casually flip their Titanium Seal of Dalaran, then walk away laughing.
    I had another guildie come up and we chatted a while he only needed a few gold coins. Needless to say he fished up the gold coins he needed and got his achievement while I was still fishing up that one gold coin. He wished me good luck and I kept fishing for that coin.
    I kept telling myself. One more cast and I'm done. One more cast. I don't know how many times I told myself that. Fishing buddy says I fished up 330 gold coins. If that says anything.
    I know it was late. I was tired.I had about 2 minutes left on a sharpened hook buff, so I said that was it. I fished up some other gold coin, I tossed it back, and said this is the last lucky buff tonight. I'm done.
    Next cast. Finally. Arthas' Gold Coin. The Achievement appeared. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
    I was congratulated in guild chat. Stripped off my gear, jumped in the fountain, and logged off.
    I don't know how the servers work, how probability works, luck or any of that, or if some one somewhere just took pity on me, but I'll never forget that fishing achievement.
  94. Jason Hex, January 2011:
    When the achievements first came out, I desperately wanted the Salty title. I had already won the fishing tournament before they were added (at lvl 68 actually), and most of the achievements took little time to complete, like Mr. Pinchy, and the Ironforge/Ogrimmar fishies.
    The last achievement I needed for the title was "One That Didn't Get Away." I looked at the list, and the 15 pound mud snapper was the lowest level fish, with the smallest weight, and I decided THAT would be the fish I caught to get the title. I started in the pond in Goldshire, and later moved to the pond near Bloodhoof Village. I specifically caught the fish near the ravaged caravan.
    I didn't keep track of time, but using the statistics tab on the achievements window, I calculated that I caught OVER TEN THOUSAND FISHIES before I got that 15 pounder. By time, I guess I could have finished a Final Fantasy game haha! That was the most amount of time I have ever spent doing one thing in any videogame. Catching that guy was my proudest moment as warcraft fisherman.
    "Salty" Jason Hex (not my toon's actual name yar)
  95. Krakye, January 2011:
    I would say that I am most proud of the first fish I caught in Wintergrasp. I wasn't "old enough" at the time to enter the zone through the portal. I flew from Sholazar, dumped my mount and popped feather-fall. Unfortunately, I landed in the midst of Wandering Shadows that were less than pleased with my sudden appearance. I somehow managed to fight my way over to the flight master where a couple of hordies took pity on me and disposed of my "welcoming committee".
    I healed up, equipped my pole and caught the first of scores of fish to come from WG for me and the guild. Woot!
  96. Bregonar, January 2011:
    "What one catch are you most proud of, and why?"
    I was really happy when I finally caught my Sea Turtle, but I was even happier when I won the Booty Bay fishing contest.
    I tried to win for several months, getting closer and closer. Had 35/40 one week, for example, but got killed by a member of the opposing faction. Several weeks later I was preparing for the tournament, when I saw this undead mage. I wished him good luck (Alliance here) and, surprisingly, he won the tournament.
    Again some weeks later, I had a really good feeling. My girlfriend was joining me, she actually arrived at my house at 13:45 server time, and wished me good luck. She helped me spot pools (can't thank her enough!).
    My start wasn't great, but I did catch two rare fish halfway through the tournament: Keefer's Angelfish and Brownell's Blue Striped Racer, I then said to my girlfriend: 'Please, let this be a sign of luck!'
    And so it was written, I caught my 40th fish from a pool, then proceeded to hearthstone. 'The questgiver still has a '?' above his head!' I was freaking out, and just when I completed the quest (picked the trinket, I am still fishing with my Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole) an alliance landed.
    It was such a close win, but I was really happy I won after months of trying!
  97. Emse, January 2011:
    When i fished a a waterproof journal up from a wreckage. Made me fish a ton moar. was also the reason i continued playing WoW. =)
  98. Pingus, February 2011:
    The catch I'm most proud of? Well I actually have two but they both tie in together.
    It was the winter of 2008. Achievements had just come out, and me and my buddies were on a spree. For two years my druid friend and been trying for Old Crafty and Old Ironjaw, so we decided to end his silly grudge. We grabbed the Crocilisk In the City daily to glitch it and get him. Well now the third member of our group had been phased when ever we went into Org for whatever reason. Me and the other druid stealthed in and went to camp by the waterfall. They go theirs within a few casts, however for me...it took 3hours. I had preformed the glitch incorrectly so I got him the hard way, while my two friends went to go catch Ironjaw. Needless to say I had been killed multiple times,my gear broken from falls, needless to say it was a hellish nightmare of a time. By the time I was done I had to train for a higher skill level.
    Now I would say the story ends there but it doesn't. I was in the Magic District of IF fishing for Ironjaw. I was about 10 casts in when a undead rogue popped up next me named Gluck. ( His name in German means luck). He bowed to me and right when he did, I caught Old Ironjaw. My heart stopped and I bowed and danced with the rogue. (My guess is he was after him too). I never logged onto vent faster then when I caught him, I found my friends and yelled I GOT IT I GOT IT! Needless to say this catch, rather catches, are the ones the that make me think that Blizzard does have a heart. :)
    My favorite catch is still deviate fish. I like the buffs you can get from eating just the fish raw, or from cooking them into savory deviate delight.
    I remember during vanilla 40 man raids, I would always have some extra Savory Deviate Delight to trade with the mages who gave me water. They were always a big hit!
    My proudest catch was Mr. Pinchy.
    In the guild I was in at the time, there was a guy who lamented the time he spent trying to catch Mr. Pinchy. It had been four months without a bite. When I expressed interest in trying for Mr. Pinchy myself, he tried to discourage me by saying I had to have max level Fishing, all the Fishing items from the STV contest (including the fishing pole), as well as all the Fishing enchants I could get on my gear. I refused to listen to him, though, and I went up to Skettis at level 68 (I was a Druid), around 225 Fishing skill, and no Fishing enchants. On my third cast, I caught Mr. Pinchy! I was stunned! I took a screenshot and had fun showing it off on the guild forums. The guy didn’t talk to me for a week after that and was even further annoyed when I got the Magical Crawdad the second time I used the item.
    Is it any wonder with his negative attitude he never got Mr. Pinchy himself?
    My favourite is the day I was fishing up my weekly buff food, not really paying attention, when all of a sudden the Turtle appeared in the catch. Made my Year catching him as it also gave me he achievement 100 mounts.
    Spending my day time trying to fish the 10 k fish, so my guild can get the Fish feast and I can get Iron Cheff achivement
    Caught Mr. Pinchy on my third catch and got the pet on my first wish! I was jumping around the room for 15 minutes. I've heard horror stories about trying to bag that pet.
    Fishing up the Sea Turtle is what turned me on to fishing in the first place. Imagine fisher of barely 100 level thinking, "hey there's a pool, why not cast a line and see what happens?" The next thing I know, it's taking me twice as long to get places because I refuse to dismount my turtle. Awkward? Maybe. But I <3 it.
    My most memorable catch was my 40th tastyfish, caught seconds before anyone else on my realm, and caught after a very long career as a fisherperson. I'd been fishing since a small character - sometimes in places that required corpse runs back to my favorite spot.
    I was a contestant in the Stranglethorn fishing derby uncountable times. It was the last fish (thanks to all the information on this compendium of WoW ichthyology regarding other fishy quests and tips) that I needed to earn the title "Salty." I admit that I was hardly confident that Sunday, having come so close, so many times.
    Finally winning that title was no less gratifying than the first time I killed Diablo and earned my red dot.
