Pure Water and Pool of Fire
In Nagrand pools called "Pure Water" can be found. These pools look like bright blue swirling masses of gas, but may be fished just like other pools. Pure Water pools mostly contain Mote of Water. For more information, see the Fishing Pure Water topic.
Pool of Fire are found in lava in Mount Hyjal and Twilight Highlands. These pools contain Volatile Fire. For more information, read Fishing Pool of Fire (Volatile Fire).
Pool of Blood and Crane Yolk Pool
Both these pools are created by the angler, then fished normally:
Kill a beast in Borean Tundra. This will give a 3 minute debuff called "Animal Blood". Now jump into an open area of water. A Pool of Blood will appear, which you fish like any other pool. Each Pool of Blood will remain for 3 minutes. Pool of Blood are only useful for the daily quest, Blood is Thicker. Pool of Blood contain the quest-only fish, Bloodtooth Frenzy. Without the quest, you will just catch junk Mostly-eaten Bonescale Snapper.
Crane Yolk Pool are fished during The Anglers daily quest Who Knew Fish Liked Eggs? Steal a Pristine Crane Egg from nests found on the ground, at the top of Narsong Spires. Throw the Pristine Crane Egg into any fishable area of water to create a Crane Yolk Pool. These may be created in any fishable water, but most likely to be created near the Anglers Wharf in Krasarang Wilds.
Strange Pool and Mysterious Whirlpool
In the Serpentshrine Cavern (within Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh) is a large patch of blue glowing water called a "Strange Pool". This pool contains the same fish as Greater Sagefish School - Raw Greater Sagefish and some Iron Bound Trunk. After fishing for a period (up to 20 minutes, but quicker with more people fishing), a rare "fish" will be summoned: The Lurker Below. The Lurker is one of the dungeon's bosses.
A similar large blue "Mysterious Whirlpool" is fished during The Anglers daily quest What Lurks Below. It is found at Krasari Falls, Krasarang Wilds, but only during the quest. Fishing the pool immediately awakens Narjon the Gulper.
Other Quest Schools
There are several pools that cannot be fished normally. Each can only be fished with a particular quest on your log. Without the quest, you will just catch open water fish.
The following pools must be fished with the net provided by the quest - not a fishing pole. These pools can be fished by those without fishing skill:
| Pool (School) | Common Catch | Zones and Areas |
|---|---|---|
| School of Northern Salmon | Northern Salmon | Coastal: Grizzly Hills (east coast) |
| School of Red Snapper | Red Snapper | Coastal: Azuremyst Isle (Ammen Ford) |
| School of Tasty Reef Fish | Tasty Reef Fish | Coastal: Howling Fjord (south of Isle of Spears) |
Shipwreck Debris (Pandaria) are fished normally during The Anglers daily quest Scavenger Hunt. Standing on the raft provided is helpful, but optional. These pools are found around a pair of shipwrecks on the coast of Krasarang Wilds.
In addition there are several objects in the world that look like fishing pools, but cannot be fished by any means. These are normally related to quests. Examples include Muddy Water and Swirling Pool in the Valley of the Four Winds.
